Capable yeah, but he has no reason to. He's the spoiled rich kid in your class whose parents always gave him everything he wanted without having to pay a single dime. There's no incentive for him to work hard, he's already living the charmed life.
Word is he's supposed to be fighting Jleon Love. If he can look spectacular against Love, I'd say it's possible he can win another world title at 168.
I do, he had a good, not great run for a while before losing to Martininez, too bad he just doesnt have the will to train
A fight with Jr. Vs. "Zurdo" would sell out any venue in LA for sure... maybe a stadium? (Depending on the card...) But will Bobby still do biz with Chavez?
What exactly was his talent? Except for absorbing punishment and cutting an obscene amount of weight? When a light heavyweight beats up on light middleweight purely due to the size difference is referred to as "talent", I wonder about the fans of this sport.
Ive been perusing this thread and it seems everyone has jumped ship on Jr. Fact is, he's still quite young in terms of actual age at 30, and yeah he's been in a few wars, but only at the lower weights. He's finally grown into his full frame, and weight draining hasnt really ever affected him. He could fight on in Mexico or Texas, where testing isnt so stringent, refuse VADA/WADA and go a route alternate to the WBC and possibly pick up another strap at 168 or even 175 depending on who he can get to come to Mexico. Im not sold on the fact that we've heard the last from him. :think
I can feel hypocrisy, at least double standards. Canelo is mega-star and he can gain 10 kg/22 lb during the 24 hours, and JCC is "cheater and charlatan" and he has been doing the same. By the way, I can not understand the way to cut/gain 10 kg/22 lb during the night.
No hypocrisy whatsoever, I think canelo is no better. Both only fit smaller men. At least JC Jr stepped up to a man his own size, Canelo ran after talking tough.
I don't think Canelo is a coward, the boss is ODLH, and for me - he is guilty for catchweights etc... But, I have to repeat, JCC Jr is Mexican with great background, and I can imagine him as a champion (175) in two or three years, after Kovalev and co. move up in CW or simply retire. Naturaly, he has to adapt to the new division, and slowly but surely make progress. I feel he has solid chances, and it would be good for boxing, because of mighty fan base.
At 168 he could possibly make some noise as he would still dwarf most guys in the ring. At 175 that goes out the window you saw what Fonfara did to him.
