He fought Fury 2x, Vitali and Haye. Some pretty good paydays. To me he is one of the best marketed average boxers ever. Now he is in win streak fighting against journeymen, and is targetting to one big payday fight with Joshua.
British heavyweights at or very near the top domestically always get good fights because they always have good money behind them. Phil Scott, Frank Bruno, Henry Cooper (who was better than these others - but still didn't really "earn" his second shot at Ali did he?) all these guys got backing out of keeping with their standing, is the point. On the other hand, Fury and Haye (As a former lineal champion at cruiserweight) probably got what they deserved in terms of big fights.
:!: Chisora is one of the best possible boxing careers a fighter of his calibre could wish for. As he kept loosing fights, his paydays kept going up. And after Haye knocked him out, his team did the smart thing and rebuilt him, something that rarely happens in boxing. And now they are doing it again, getting some fast wins under his belt and building him back up, with an unavoidable big payday coming up soon. (This weekend is his fifth fight in six months, his third fight in the last thirty days.)
Now that you mention it, it's puzzling how he manages to get one good fight after another. To be fair, he was very solid in 2012 when he beat Helenius and gave Vitali a decent enough fight. Scott win ain't bad either.
Oddly enough, Arreola has never really gotten any handouts when it comes to paydays. Only one i can think of is Vitaly. And in recent years hes had to earn those dollars(so to speak). 5/6 have been wars.
Paulie F'gginiagi is as average as anyone but still got big paydays (and beatings) adainst Hatton, Khan, Garcia and Porter
Dumb question considering Chisora is neither average and was never 'marketed'. The only hype he ever had was self created. He practically shut out the at the time HW bogeyman Helenius, took Malik Scotts 0, amongst other good wins. He only lost to the top dogs and gave them all tough fights. Another round or 2 and he would have stopped Vitali. Fury whipped him second time out but he's proved himself to be the best HW in the world so no shame in that. He was also all kinds of wrong for Wlad who ducked him twice.
Bruno was legit and deserved the big fights, to suggest otherwise is scandalous. And the controversy surrounding the first fight was more than enought to warrant a rematch for Cooper.
Try watching the fight again klitturd, this time without Wlads semen in your eyes. Quitali was on the verge of a 'no mas', he was literally sobbing into Wlads arms after the final bell.
