Shot fighters exist in boxing. Shot comes for them all eventually, make your peace with this inevitability as a boxing fan, and the game becomes easier to follow. No one saw that coming last night though did they? Smith was always a live dog on skillset and experience but a light punching 154lber is not juniors kryptonite. At least until last night it wasn’t. juniors punch resistance is gone, is he dead at 160? He’s too small for the big dogs at 168 so where does he go from here? eddie Hearns cynical numbers game weight tinkering and brain water rehydration clauses look to have taken their toll on junior, no shock there, it was a form of mental and physical torture wrapped up in a pay day from the ZONE blood money. If smith did that to a 160lb junior with no water restrictions, what would a fully hard boiled Connor BENNE with two covered up failed drug tests have done to a 157lb Chris with a contractually dehydrated brain in the ring? And how hard would Eddie Hearns have celebrated in the ring whilst junior lay convulsing on the canvas.. most importantly, is Junior now a shot fighter?
Too early to tell for me. How he performs in his next fight should tell us a lot. That is assuming he fights again.
Looking back at the highlights, he is going to dance now every time a decent punch lands. He needs to do a Wladimir Klitschko and find a way of not being hit or take a final Benn Loot Fight then retire.
Eddie would have then been on IFL crying say he prays Junior comes out of his coma. Hearn is cancerous
As I wrote a little earlier in another thread: I think it is mainly due to the process Eubank Jr has gone through with massive weight loss and then subsequently he had to put a lot of weight back on again. It is in no way healthy for the body. It could be that Eubank Jr. has taken permanent damage from the process up to the fight against Conor Benn.
Got to give him 1 more fight to see, but his chin looks to be done and that was really his only Champion attribute, as shown in all the big fights he has lost his chin was never in question. After last night his chin is gone so to me he looks to be shot. He gets mega PPV bounty's though so will most definitely continue till he is 40 and still never own a genuine belt and have 12 losses just like Chisora.
He’s ****ed if he can’t take a shot anymore. It’s his own fault, everyone knows this can happen when you abuse your body trying to fight at too low a weight.
If you watch it back, when Eubank is in the corner he ducks/leans forward straight into an elbow as Smith throws a big hook which lands right on his temple. That's what did all the damage. So for all the talk of Eubank being shot, dead at the weight etc (which may be the case) sometimes getting caught like that can do that to you, even if you've got an otherwsie granite chin.
His dad Sr was right. Called Jr a greedy pig for chasing money and threatened attempted murder charges on the promoters (with no knowledge of Conor failed tests) for weight cut clause
Hmm. There was actually an elbow right to the temple, Smith throws a left hook that misses and follows through with the elbow bang on the side of the temple! -Eubank ducks/leans into it too.
He is in a difficult spot. Hard to see him being able to fight in the same way given he clearly isn’t as durable as he once was at 160lb. And doesn’t have the power to compete at 168lb. I am sensing cash out and retire.
