Is Chris Eubank the lowest ranked divisional ATG ever?

From the top of my head, I can't think of anyone who is such a consensus divisional great, despite never being in the top two of the division, or ever having a realistic argument for being the best in the division.

Can anyone else think of a fighter who so routinely makes a top ten list, despite never being in the top 2 of his own era?

It's obviously due to proliferation of belts that these kind of things can occur, but I honestly can't think of a single other consensus top ten divisional great who was so low ranked throughout his career.

Makes me wonder if Eubank actually deserves his status in SMW history. How much do his title defences really mean if he could never crack the top 2 whilst holding his belt?

Have you seen many top 10 SMW lists that don't feature him?

He conned the British public and now his son is doing the same.

Well, the 168 pound division has only been widely recognized for about 30 years, so that would explain why the depth of quality in a "top 5" or "top 10" list might be relatively weak.

I don't consider him a great fighter,Im not concerned by how many lists he is on at SMW, or at any other weight. Getting in a top ten at a weight that has only been recognized since 1989,means jack **** to me.

Well the whole point of the thread is his appearance in top ten lists.

Absolutely and I agree that there is an inherent weakness in new divisions.

I just wonder if Eubank is the weakest I've seen frequenting a top ten list.

Eubank, for a British fighter, really good. But that's it imo, once we start going world level, he drops right down. Long reign for sure and Lots of defence s, but look at most of em. Apart from Benn, Watson and a couple of others, mediocre at best.
