Most of the "Best I've faced" is a sham in that sense, since ego will inform choices to a large degree. Kalambay, for example, rated Barkley as his best opponent. Ahead of Nunn and McCallum. And it often goes in that direction.

Its true...you might have had 5 times as much tough American mws in the late 80s -early 90s...now its a handful or so...back than the creme whom eubanks avoided got the hype..but even your third tier of american mw"s....eg..your dennis miltons, sanderline williams, tony thorntons, dan schommers or ron essets were tough good fighters who'd be higher rated pros today...people criticise eubanks...but his record of quality wins is superior to herol grahams at 160...

There were hundreds per state of rammed full inner city boxing gyms in the 70s/80s churning out black talent off the back of Ali on network TV, now there are three or four per state just barely surviving.

So you would consider Holmes and Dokes equal? Pryor and Mamby? Hearns and Moore? Arguello and Frias? Wilfredo Gomez and Sergio Palma?

    Maybe i misunderstand.

British legend Eubank told Sky: “I don’t want to appear arrogant because I’m not.

“I had brains. I never had to fight Roy because he was never number one contender to my WBO championship

“I was not mindless enough to go looking for something that I couldn’t achieve.

“I would have fought Roy if he was number one contender – I would have had to, because my integrity would not have allowed me to dodge him.

“But I was WBO champion and he was IBF. I didn’t have to, I wasn’t forced to.

“It was a very tall building that I chose not to climb.

“If you choose to do something that you know you cannot do, or that is going to be very difficult, then you are a fool!

“My view was; Roy, I will admire you from afar!”

I've looked through the rankings again and it appears there actually WERE a couple of months that saw Eubank sneak into the top two

When Eubank beat Watson (September) he actually entered the rankings at number 2 and stayed there until Nunn entered the division (November).

    So there you have it.

In reality we know Eubank and Watson were two classes above guys like Mauro Galvano, Tiozzo and Darrin Van Horn

It has to be proven in the ring.

Galvano and Horn were never ranked above him anyways.

Tiozzo was, as was Cordoba and Nunn. Little and Liles never were though.

Barkley was after he'd beaten Hearns (not sure why that affected his SMW ranking) as was Toney and Jones.

Galvano and Benn weren't, but Benn was after the "draw"

Tiozzo clearly lost to Lenzie Morgan. Daylight robbery.

But is that enough to say with certainty Eubank would have beaten Cordoba or Tiozzo?

I mean they were ranked above him in real life and he could have pursued the fights to prove himself had he wanted.
