So, let me get this straight, after years of being **** on for being a paper champion who'd never proven himself and ducked all the top fighters in the division, after years of calling out the top fighters of his division only to be ignored and then blamed for fights not happening, Cleverly attempts to get some respect and legitimacy by fighting the man many consider the most dangerous Light Heavyweight in the World and its "the dumbest move ever in boxing".

What? Would you respect him more if he'd never taken the fight at all?

Did Cleverly overestimate his own abilities and underestimate Kovalev? Probably. But you can't criticise the man for making the fight, for challenging himself and for trying to get all those critics that accuse him of ducking dangerous opposition off his back.

He stepped up a level and proved lacking. There's no disgrace in that.

The point was not about Cleverly finally stepping up, what everybody wanted except a certain promoter. it's about picking the hardest of all the hard fights he could take, with the least amount of exposure when being victorious against the odds.

Everyone wanted to see Nathan against someone good for once (it was long overdue), but he took the best and may actually have commited career suicide.

No. Any idiot can get a degree. University is much easier than it used to be.

Maths degrees are surely one of hardest though, not exactly an enjoyable subject is it. Apparently he got really high marks as well. It shows you people are clever in some ways and extremely dumb in others. He chose to fight Sergey Kovalev for ****s sake LOOOOL

i don't think he came out looking stupid, i think he came out looking like a guy who was willing to fight a dangerous fighter that a lot of people were talking about at the time. there's fighters who go years and years without taking on worthy fighters, cleverly took on kovalev in his first defense of the WBO title. you have to respect that.
