I dont have that bad vision but I wouldnt mind having better vision in the ring and while training. So i was just wondering if its ok to wear contacts for an amateur fight.
I spoke to my optician and she certainly didnt think it was a problem. She thought i was crazy for wanting to box but that aside she said the worst that could happen is that they came out, the soft contacts they use these days wouldnt damage your eyes But i dont know weather your officially allowed them.... im sure there are ways around it if they arn't allowed
soft contacts are fine. In the amateurs it will be no problem. In the pros, without headgear, they will get knocked out easily.
I can't even count the number of sparring sessions that get interrupted so we can find someone's contact. They're really easy to knock out. I'd say don't use them if you don't need them.
i get monthly contacts , but was thinking of asking to get a supply of throw away daily contacts and if they come out no big loss!
I used to wear mine for sparring but they came out all the time, so now I just spar without them and I can still see as much as I need to see in the ring and don't really notice much of a difference to when I used to wear them all the time.. All depends on how bad your vision is I guess
Yeah, I'm not a pro, but mine get knocked out real easily. Unfortunately, my vision is so bad I need them.
I might sound dumb but i always thought it would be hard to knock out contacts but if its happens a lot i think ill ask my trainer about it and see whats up
They’ll get knocked out of position but soft lenses won’t damage your eyes. Just get laser surgery it’s cheap and affordable.
i wear contacts when training coz im blind as a bat - ideally i wouldnt if i was sparring in case they did get knocked out but i dont think i could be arsed taking them out, sparring, then putting them back in again
I asked my coach about wearing contacts today and he said its fine. He told me that in a fight if they get knocked out, you keep going, the ref's dont have time to stop the fight to look for the contacts.
They only get knocked out if you get hit! Seriously though I would think Mexican style headgear would help reduce the contacts getting knocked out if that is an issue, anyone try that who uses contacts?
The headgear makes no difference. It's not like the glove digs into your eye and scrapes out the contact. It's the impact that jars it out. Your head is going one way and is violently stopped or sent the opposite direction by a punch, and your contacts aren't attached to your eyes so they just keep on going in the direction your head was.
I had LASIK done last May. Took a month of of sparring to heal. I'm all good now and have 20-20. Best decision I ever made.
