Im not comparing their abilities, im comparing their hype.
Before the lesnar fight, carwin was the next best thing. Since that fight we havent really heard much from him. Im asking whether you think the same will happen to cormier, granted he has already fought and beat better opposition.

Carwin was hyped by the UFC PR machine. A hype that was never warranted Cormier on the other hand is the real deal. The hype is real. That much should be apparent from the way he's been dismantling some of the best heavys in the world. The two just aren't comparable to me as Cormier certainly won't crash and burn the way Carwin has at the top level.

Their resumes are really easy to compare.

Both have gone 11-0 before their fights with Frank Mir. And beating Mir will likely get both a title shot. Except Cormier's will come at LHW.

Carwin fought cans, save for Gonzaga, who was getting the better of the fight on the feet before being caught.

On the other hand, Cormier has already defeated notable names such as Monson, Antonio Silva, and Josh Barnett. And looked dominant for nearly every second of those fights.

Cormier has showcased some of the greatest wrestling we have ever seen and one of the most complete skillsets in MMA.

Carwin got out struck by a BJJ ace.

Carwin was actually pretty awesome before he got caught with roids and had surgery. Massive ****ing power and If ufc wasn't gay and allowed knees to tge head lesnar would have died. Under rated nowadays to discredit lesnar whose also criminally underrated.

Everything you just said is either: wrong or just plain silly.

No it just went against the status quo of this forum. Carwin with a broken back and off roids still went the distance with jds he was a beast.

    This thread titles strange though.

I would have to disagree. There just wasn't anything particularly 'awesome' about him. He had the stupid inhuman power of course but he couldn't string together combinations, his wrestling was decent (I think it should've been better). But pound for pound, Manhoef still carries more power. So it's not like Carwin is the most powerful punching MMA fighter of all time. And I'd still place Vovchanchyn above him.

I can't see how he's underrated. Especially considering most outlets kept him in the 5-8 area of heavyweight rankings through most of his current inactivity.

But it all doesn't matter, I just found you comment pretty odd.

Carwins NEVER been anything remotely close to a beast. Even during his early run he beat no one of any note and certainly didn't look like a 'beast' doing it. The guys a very average fighter who does nothing particularly well, other than having heavy hands, which should be expected for a man of his size and weight. And the fact he made career of taking hormones...

I've put hate on carwin because of the hype but his run with injuries and other set backs have crippled his career more than anything. He was seconds away from becoming champ but his lack of cardio ****ed him over. Id hate to live with that, personally

As for comparison is say Cormier had probably accomished more than carwin already. I'd be interested to see if Cormier can take Roy Nelson out by ko. Which seems impossible at the moment

Oh ****, he is 34. I always thought he was around 28. That changes things. You never know, he is hardly a health freak so who knows how his body is holding up in general. Either way, at present he is incredibly good striking and grappling. His record speaks for itself and you feel there is room for improvement.

I think the fact you have to pull out manhoef and igor as guys who may have more punching power than carwin kind of proves my point. Carson's physically stronger than both of those guys as well, although igor was like a real life dwarf out of lord of the rings
