If Miguel Cotto were to stop boxing today, would he be considered a HOFer? If not, what fighters would he have to beat in order to qualify?

    Please vote, it's a poll :)

Considering people say no to vargas when i ask... i dont see how or why cotto would get in. IMO he would still have to reign supreme for a few years... if he beats margarito and then defends for a few years, and then has a career defining fight... hes in.

    Most certainly not.

He's only recently even entered out p4p lists, lets talk about HOF in at least 5 years time shall we ??

You could make a case due to the 10 title defenses and 10 world champions he's defeated, but I think it's a bit too early. If he beat Margarito, I'd say 'yes.'

Cotto has beaten: Zab Judah (passed prime), Oktay Urkal (passed prime), Demarcus Corley (prime), Alfonso Gomez (prime), Shane Mosely (nearly passed prime), Paulie Malignaggi (prime and up and coming), Carlos Quintana (prime), and Lovemore Ndou (prime). So its very good fighters at their primes, and great fighters past their primes. It's a toughy, but I say he gets a pass. I just hope he takes on more great fighters at their primes in the future. A win with Antonio Margarito will help a lot.

If he fought and beat Mayweather he can have his own wing in the HOF.

    As of now, not yet.

That's a good point. He doesn't have single win better than Ingemar's win over Floyd Patterson, but he has a reasonably deep resume in comparison to a couple others. It's not out of the question to say he's done enough, considering the IBHOF has seemingly lowered their standards.

Still, I believe he's capable of so much more, so I have no questions he'll eventually find his way there. It'll be well deserved.
