I have stated before that i have mixed feeling for this catchweight fight. However it seems we are conveniently forgetting that there has ALREADY been a precedent before at EXACT same weight. Whitaker and Chavez was for the Welterweight tiltle at catchweight 145 lbs. Tell WHO here will say that that fight, between the LBS 4 LBS number 1 and 2 is not a legitimate title fight? I don't hear anyone complaining abt it and dissing either fighter for making it except for the BS Draw decision.

Funny enought Whitaker, the WW champion came in at the agreed weight of 145 lbs while Chavez came in at 142 lbs which Cotto and Pac will also likely weigh-in. To top it off Whitaker and Chavez are basically same size, while Pac and Cotto will DEFINITELY be not. Yet i have yet to hear this loud crying as you boxing PURIST (who should know his history better)
seems to cry about for this fight. Most interesting indeed........

Only IBF has post-weighin weight gain restrictions which is not more than 10 pounds. Other boxing organizations do not even weigh fighters after the weigh-in that is why nobody actually knew PBF's actual weight in each fight except for their own PR machines telling everybody that he never gains more than 2 - 3 pounds after weigh-in. Those are not official weighing scales and some fighters actually gain two divisions worth of weight gain after weigh-in.

If you think that asking Cotto to come down 2 pounds south of the weight limit when the fight is almost 4 months away is bad, SRL asked Lalonde, a light-heavyweightfighter to go down to 168 or supermiddleweight, and still put the light-heavyweight title on the line. So basically they were fighting for two titles. That was unprecedented.

Asking Cotto to go down 1 pound from his last fight weight (he weighed in 146 against Clottey) with about 4 months to go is absolutely fair. The 4 months to institute a safe weight loss of 1 pound is more than enough.

What people are overlooking is that Pac would probably weigh 148 post weigh-in while Cotto would be at 158-160. If Pac agreed to 147, then to be exactly fair and to even out the fighting field, if the weigh-in is set at 147, then post-weighin gain should not be more than 4 pounds. That is probably fair. But we all know that Cotto comes at middleweight.

There are so many fighters who are actually fighting way below their ideal weight by cuting weigh so much. Imagine 6 foot boxers in 130 or 135 division. I do not have to identify many of those fighters because it may touch sore nerve but if after the weigh-in, your weight is 2 divisions higher than the stated fight, you should have no business fighting there.

u r just a fan of pac and you r saying that the pac fans are not bias? Everyone is bias depending on a curtain topic, so we can go round and round with this all night, but of coasrse anything I say you have a counter cause the one who claims who is bias is usually the one that is.

Welterweight Limit is 147. Welterweight RANGE is 141-147.

The fight at 145 is within the range. It's a WW fight you know.

Both fighters have agreed to fight at 145. Which is within the WW limits.

Not having it at 147 is not perfect but it's a better situation than Cotto (BIG if) losing and still being able to call himself a WW champion.

Now that would not be right. How could he call himself WW champ when he was beaten within the limits.

Belt or no belt Cotto WILL NOT be a legitimate welterweight champion if he loses to Pac.

Clottey weighed in at 170 against Corrales...That's 23lbs over the weight limit. Don't know where you heard about the 14lbs.

Read previous post. Only IBF has a post-weighin weight gain restriction. The rest of the sanctioning bodies do not even officially weigh their fighters after weigh-in.

Wrong buddy. I'm actually 100% Puerto Rican, and have met Cotto on several occasions. Whenever he's fighting in MSG, I make it my business to go catch the fight live. I'm a HUGE fan of Cotto, and also a HUGE fan of Pac. I'm just tired of hearing all these little whiney men cry about 2 freaking lbs, when in the long run, its going to be Pac who is severely outweighed come fight night.

Exactly! Just because they arent fighting at the maximum "LIMIT", doesnt mean that this isnt a WW fight.

    Good post!

Holy potatoes! Is that even possible?!

23lbs is absolutely obscene to the point of being wrong.
