His best days are gone, but than again the JMW divisions best days are gone too, so maybe he can rule a "shot" division as a "shot" fighter. If he can get past his Margo lost, Pac lost, Dad dying, and from what I saw weight gain than yes I think he can be a top fighter again but he won't be the Cotto that made Judah cry in the ring.

    Ridiculous.

PS- Foreman fights out of Brooklyn. He's the hometown fighter.

Too many folks are too quick to write off guys who have lost....and it's not like Cotto lost to Jennings! He lost to Manny and Marg who had questionable wraps....now I still think Marg would have won based on what I saw, but who knows. At 154 I think Miguel may feel more comfortable not haveing to cut weight as much. I think his power will suffer a bit, but think he'll be a faster 154 fighter. The only question now is his mental state and Yuri is a good fight where Miguel can regain some of the confidence he lost in his fight with Manny. Yuri presents little in way of danger but could pose some stylistic problems.

:huh Why? Cotto is a top fighter himself. To avoid top guys doesn't make sense just b/c he lost to Manny. For Miguel to stop fighting guys who pose or present challenges would mean he should just retire. And I don't think Cotto wants to retire yet....he's still young, capable and relevant.

    let's not go too far.

Clottey fights out of the Bronx, but on the eve o Puerto Rican Day Parade in MSG, Cotto is the clear hometown favorite.

Zab is also from Brooklyn. Same story.

So although I don't think Cotto will even need the judges, he will be a clear hometown favorite. Ad the crowd will undoubtedly go wild evey time he even throws a punch.

Unfortunate, but I think he'll never be the same guy who was in the ring against Mosley. That was Cotto's peak. I notice guys usually move up in weight after losing or chasing more money; I doesn't look like there are bigger paydays at 154lbs so it could be a way of closing a chapter at 147lbs and starting a new life at a higher weight, but history tell us that doesn't fare well when the fighter is already on a decline

Beating Shane says enough about Miguel and beating Zab also indicates you are off the mark with your assesment. He lost to the best fighter of this generation in Manny and to Marg, which was highly questionable. "GIFT" decisions in Josh and Shane!:rofl Look.....they were both very close. I thought Shane edged Miguel myself but in no way a gift. Same with Josh although I felt Cotto beat Josh...but could see how others felt Josh won. A Gift is considered when speaking of a fight like DLH vs Tito or DLH vs Strum or Agustas vs Burton.

a guy likes cotto wears his heart on his sleeve and we wish other top fighters would approach fights like he does.

yet it doesn't seem right that people throw question marks over guys like cotto (and hatton too) for testing themselves beyond their abilities, and then questioning whether their time in boxing is spent for doing so, does it?

not when there are other fighters who stay in the spotlight for longer but take less risks.

this is a pretty disrespectful post IMO.

cotto has stepped up and been one of those fighters we all like to watch since he (barely) edged past torres - that was a cracking fight too.

cotto hasn't done much wrong since that fight. he's made all the right moves for a man who wanted to find out how good he was.

I know its not that simple but boxing fans indeed are fickle. A fighter can be declared prime, shot, prime over the course of of 3 fights.

Mosley 2 years ago was shot, past it and no suggestions of fighting PBF. One win over 1 dminesional Margarito and he's suddenly in the form of his life.

MAB was prime when he fought pac, shot after he fought pac, back on form after he beat Morales. Morales was shot after he lost to MAB, prime again after he beat Pac, shot again after he lost to Raheem.

Hopkins was past it/shot when he lost to Taylor, then like fine wine gets better with age when he beat Tarver...:nut

I certainly do not think he has long left. I also think the move to 154 was a bad idea.

I don't think Cotto is done at all. I think there is too much being made from the close fights he had with an All time great in Mosley and a very tough bigger and stronger Clottey one fight removed from his first career loss. I think the worst decision Cotto made is not taking easier fights stylistically after the Margo fight. Ironically his willingness to face anyone and everyone is one of the major reason people appreciate and respect him. If Cotto destroys a guy like Collazo after the Jennings fight, then fights a close fight with Clottey I think peoples perception of him would be alot different. Since he was in successive close tough fights and losses against tough top competition people seem to feel he is declining, but name me another fighter who fought a similar line up in succession and looked good. I mean of course he took the stay busy fights against Gomez and Jennings but he could have fought 1 or 2 higher ranked guys in between as well and be perceived completely different. The first few rounds against Pac showed his skills are still there. He didn't fight a smart fight thinking he was going to be able to bully Pac and got bet by a guy many people think is the best in this generation and one of the best ever. His loss to Margo is questionable, but even if you take that aspect away he boxed beautifully for 6-7 rounds and was eventaully worn down by the bigger stronger man. I don't think either of his two losses are anything to be ashamed of and I certainly don't think he's finished. I don't however like the move to 154 and hope it's only to attempt to become a 3 division champ and not a permanant move.
