lacy didn't win a second of that fight, this fight was extremely competitive

 

Lacy was embarrased in every single way... this is just not the same.

 

No way. It was a good beating, but I think he takes it and moves on.

 

It wouldn't surprise me if Cotto sustained some kind of broken rib type injury that he just couldn't cope with. Would explain his lack of movement later on, spitting blood and taking a knee.

 

Cotto will be back hungrier and stronger than ever, no doubt in my mind about that.

 

I agree with Tommy.. its a big call to write cotto off after his first loss. It will be interesting to see how cotto responds if he finds himself in trouble in his next few fights. He should pick his next opponents wisely to restore his confidence.

 

I'm not saying it's the same. I was illustrating to the guy that one fight can change a fighter, even if it's the fighter's first loss(although the shoulder injury may have been what really did in Left Hook)

but even still, on this board, whenever a fighter suffers his first loss, he's always considered 'done' atsch without even having any piece of evidence.

 

I sure hope he comes back better than ever, but like you said, many fighters never return the same. Hopefully he is one of the fighters who does come back better than ever.

 

I think he'll come back and be a world champion again, but I bet he stays the hell away from Margarito.

 

Cotto will be back, there's no way he'll simply walk away. I also predict that he'll come back stronger and will show a ruthless streak that has hitherto not been seen (difficult given his excellent record!).

Margarito was good, no, very good , and his tactics were spot on. Cotto may rue the lack of body shots and not wanting to clinch or tie his man up (heads may even have clashed... not that I'm suggesting he'd resort to such tactics but these things do happen. it may also have negated Margarito if not stalled his constant advances. The ref' in this one could have called it from a deckchair, such was the toe-to-toe nature of the contest).

In the early rounds Cotto counter-punched very effectively and looked awesome; but he did not inflict damage or seem to worry his opponent. I think mentally (bust nose aside) he seemed to lose his way. It happens and, as I've suggested, he'll be back.

Personally, I'm disappointed he lost - I love his no nonsense style. On the night, however, he met a man possessed and the better more resilient guy won. Next time, we'll see. But what a contest: 10 out of 10!

 

Meldrick took far more punshment than Cotto and then was thrown to the wolves in his next few fights.
