Is Cotto Smarter Then Margarito..???

i agree that Cotto has better ring smarts.. Tho i dont think its a guarantee of a win

 

Hard to tell who's smarter. Only way to really tell is if either does something stupid, which they rarely do. Cotto, being better technically, doesn't make him smarter.

 

margarito is a instinctive fighter. He been in the ring long enough not to do completely stupid things but he does not fight a thinking mans fight at all. Its more of a wear you down and overwhelm you with punches and make you frustrated at the fact you cant hurt him. Cotto already knows Margarito is not going to back off after every shot he throws which will be his undoing. Margarito will keep coming but by the time he gets there he wont be as strong as he was. Thats what happened in the santos fight. By the time he had Santos cornered he took a beating just to get there and he was just flinging tired punches. Same with Williams. You have to make margarito use his legs and just make him miss shots. Cotto will have a great game plan.

Margarito wasn't to smart in the Williams fight, he couldn't work him out and i see nothing different with the Cotto fight and Cotto is a lot tougher to beat than Williams.

 

Margarito had 3 good rounds against Williams. He was gassed and Williams actually finished the fight the fresher and sealed the deal in the 12th. Margarito had nothing left. Make him use his legs and you can sap his energy.

 

Margarito only has one option in this fight. Its to pressure cotto, primarily against the ropes and get him hurt and out of there. He CANT do anything else. In the middle of the ring Cotto disects him like a frog. Cottos jab is the key to the fight. Cotto just needs to keep it in Margaritos face and get that hook to the body and finish with a right hand overtop and get the **** out of dodge and repeat.

 

Margarito's smarts were only tested once, by Williams, and he failed. Margo couldn't find a technical solution to the problem Williams was causing him (by circling around and jabbing constantly) therefore Margo had to run himself out of gas in order to win three rounds (but fell short in the 12th).

Cotto, on the other hand, showed he was capable to adapt when Mosley came in more aggressive than he might have expected.

 

He came back pretty significantly. Had the fight gone 15 rounds Margarito would have knocked Williams out. Margarito's punches were really hurting Williams at the end.

 

Margarito kicked Williams' arse, but was cheated by the ciminals called judges. However, when Quintana beat Williams, he gave
Williams a rematch, something Williams was afraid to do with Margarito. He knows Margarito would knock him out.

 

Boxing intelligence wise, compared to Cotto, Margarito is just a high functioning ****** with a great ability to take physical pain.
