I have the world of respect for Miguel Cotto the boxer, but media footage over the past few months and more recently on 24/7 portray him as a professional who very much dictates his own agenda. I know we shouldn't necessarily believe everything we see or hear, but Cotto's camp appear a little too congenial for my liking: "Cotto shaves his head; they all shave their heads..." I'm all for solidarity but not blind solidarity. Cotto's desire to dictate his own destiny is a positive but not at the expense of sacrificing the objectivity/honesty that's needed in those closest to him. If Cotto's doing something wrong or has overlooked a detail he needs people around him that aren't afraid of his ego and will tell it as they see it. Maybe I'm just barking up the wrong tree.... Only time will tell
I think you have a good point, and something I wondered my self ("If Cotto's doing something wrong or has overlooked a detail he needs people around him that aren't afraid of his ego and will tell it as they see it"). Like you said only time will tell.
From watching on tape clip's 24/7 ect... Cotto's camp seems to be laid back & focused on the task. The whole shaving their head thing & being yes men around MC might have to do with the whole "Family" feel to his camp. I defo see the point you raise tho. good post. But Miguel will be ready for the 14th.
I cant say I've seen him act that bad. I always thought he came across as very focused rather than arrogant.
Being "too self assured" is arrogance, so you're asking the same question. He's a smart, confident young man. How on earth can it be a camp of yes men with his best friend and his father in the team. The head shaving thing, as explained quite clearly in 24/7, was from his father's idea of building a squad, from his time in the army. It was his father's idea -you all take responsibility for the success of your man. That's better than the mad everyone for himself attitude that permeates Manny's world. His father tells him if he's ****ing up - that's why he's there. When you're that close to your team, you tell each other the truth. These guys aren't there for the paycheck, they're there because Miguel is family to them.
I hear you my man. But seeing as you appear to believe everything you see (24/7) then what say you to the fact that Cotto's father, from his own mouth, said that he was made to choose between his son and his brother (although the choice was a no brainer). I think that was an opportune time as you put it for "His father to tell him if he's f**king up," but he didn't. :hi:
Hmmm, let's work this through. Cotto had been having serious issues with his uncle for the last few fights. His uncle is well known for being truculent. His uncle throws a BRICK at Cotto's Jaguar and Cotto fires him, finally. Why would his father tell him he was ****ing up when his uncle was the problem? That sounds like he picked the 100% right priority as a family man. :hi:
From what they said on the first 24/7 it made it sound like they only had 2 sparring partners with them in tampa. That doesnt seem like enough. I also wonder about his trainer only being 32. I will have to wait until the last 24/7 and weigh in to make my final pick. I was giving cotto the edge and Manny's training has me worried too. But I am leaning towards pac now, I think he may use his footwork and speed to stay mobile and if Cotto cant find him he will be in trouble because cotto is open to be hit and manny will get to him with his speed.
Nice reply - but the emotion in his father's face when he spoke about having to choose between his son and brother was palpable. Besides, everything you've outlined about his uncle, despite his truculence, only serves to authenticate that Cotto is surrounded by "yes men" even if a large proportion of them are family. :bbb
My point of view is that Miguel Cotto is the leader of the pack and that is a fact; however, the whole shaving their heads, playing golf, and all that is for used for team building. As a military member, I can tell you that kind of solidarity is used to eliminate individualities within a team. This whole concept surrounding Team Cotto comes from his father who is a 25-year Army veteran and is actively contributing in his son's camp.
