Pacs footspeed is overlooked alot of the time. And people don't see how good on his feet he really is. Pac can literally run circles around someone in the ring. He gets in and out picks his spots and moves. Upper body movement is very fast as well, he has the ability to slip a punch and throw a punch in one blinding motion. Cotto will have to be the best counter puncher he has ever been to stand a chance.

I agree about his footspeed, like Mike Tyson its probably the most important and under appreciated things about his game.

There was a poster on here or somewhere else that posted something along the lines of ...........Pacquiao's footwork is not very good when you force him to do something he does not want to do and i think thats true, if you look at him against Hatton there were a couple of times where Hatton bull rushed him and he did look very uncomfortable.

However his footspeed is unbelievably fast and that is why his in and out game is difficult to time.

i keep reading that pacquiao's "in and out" movement is going to give cotto problems. maybe for a couple of rounds but pacquiao is not going to be able to keep this up the whole fight. sooner or later he's going to have to get into some serious exchanges with cotto and that's when cotto's going to hurt him. the only chance pacquiao has against cotto is if he ko's him very early which ain't happening. otherwise cotto is going to be patient and wear pacquiao slowly down and give him a nasty beating.

You are assuming that when Cotto does come on he is going to be fresher than Pacquiao. Pacquiao has naturally better stamina than Cotto imo and if Cotto is being bust up who is to say that wont be sapping his stamina to ?

This is an excellent point and what I was going to bring up. It's the in-and-out, side-to-side footwork of Pacquiao that could be the biggest problem speed-wise for Cotto. In recent fights I'd felt Cotto had fallen too much in love with the idea that he was an on-his-toes boxer when his biggest strength used to be relentless pressure coming forward, but I think in this fight, his getting accustomed to being more on his toes may do him some good. He'll still need to use more of his brute strength, though, to wear Pacquiao down.

Cottos past few opponents have called for that boxer style as he wasn't the larger man in either fight, and was fighting with a handicap against clottey. He went back to a stalker style against Jennings and will probably employ that style against Manny...the funny thing I keep hearing is people talk about Cotto handling Pac's punches and speed, but it seems to be common knowledge, at least to Pac fans, that PAC will easily handle Cottos power and pressure. If I remember correctly Pac has been hurt, KO'd, and even worse in regards to this fight stopped with a shot to the body. It will be interesting to see how Pac handles cottos body work and pressure. Not to mention his power. Cotto is no Hatton, he doesn't jump into punches, PAC better hope his shot carry enough power to keep Cotto away. I mean Pac was clearly beating Hoya to the punch and landing at will, but Hoya was never in any serious danger of going down.

Pressuring Pac will be fatal. Cotto does not have the kind of reach to be effective against Pac meaning he will be coming into Pacs range evrytime he tries this. Pac doesn't lay on the ropes either and will try his best to slip out from any traps set by Cotto. It's not a given by any stretch that Pac can handle Cottos power but he's eaten alot of leather from greats like Morales and Marquez and never touched the canvas. I believe he is much stronger than then from not cutting weight and his punch resistance has carried up in weight.Of course everyone realizes Pac was ko"d twice by body shots a decade ago. But that's what it was a decade ago and a much improved mentally, physically and skilled fighter. Yes Hoya did not look like he was gonna be out cold but was visibly shaken, don't forget Hoya has fought middleweight champions Hop and Sturm beasts in Vargas, Mosley, Tito, and Quartey; greats like Chavez and Whittaker none of whom ever had Oscar in any sort of trouble besides a flash kd by Pea and the body shot by Hops. Also Pac jumping 17 pounds in just a few months.

Timing is everything in boxing. Remember Judah was a lot faster than Cotto too. The jab will have to be a steady weapon for Cotto.

Remember Pac is a sothpaw and that left jab is not as effective as the straight right. Judah had tremendous speed EARLY ON but as usual slipped and maybe with the help of a few well placed **** shots was down to a very minimal workrate. Pacmans stamina is second to none.

U guys are sleeping on Cotto's speed ... he's not slow and I don't know what fight you guys seen but Cotto was landing 5-6 punch combinations all throughout the fight.

Cotto's going to look like the Cotto that fought at 140 ... and he was an animal.

For the record, no one and I mean no one comes back after facing adversity like Cotto ... he fights back and often times takes over the fight.

I can say he's done that more than Pacquiao ... so even when the odds are against him, he finds a way to pull it out. I'm not going to go out on a limb and say he's over matched because I believe its an even fight and all the technical advantages go to Cotto and so do most of the physical advantages.

It's one of the main reason Pac chose to fight Cotto.
