Is Cotto wise to Fight at 160 Without a Tune Up?

Cotto has never fought at 160 yet jumps straight to Martinez. Most fighters moving up take on a softer touch first just to get use to the weight. In addition the last time Cotto fought a technical southpaw he got scored by Trout. All these factors suggest to me he will be beaten convincingly by Martinez.

It also suggests that they think Martinez is washed up with one foot out the door toward retirement. Freddie Roach likely think he got an old fighter in front of him ala Shane and Oscar but even at this stage styles make fights and Cotto won't be able to handle the size, speed, and ring intelligence of Sergio.

Love and respect cotto as he has been great for the sport but if sergio is anywhere near healthy he is going to school cotto badly.

Martinez has been almost knocked out by Jr, and is experiencing constant health issues, which evens the odds. Plus the rewards outweigh the risks

So a mismatch is ok as long as balls are involved? Cotto got no business in the ring with Martinez, he hasn't proved nothing at middleweight

He got offered $15 million for it or $10 milllion to fight Canelo @154.

He took Martinez offer because he knows, win, lose or draw, he can still make a fight with Canelo for big money after Martinez. Actually astute move.

And we know Cotto has a steel set of balls.

SO who cares if he hasnt fought there, doesnt mean hes gonna lose. I persoanlly feel like Cotto is gonna rough up him lke Maidana did to mayweather but Martinez doesnt have defense like, loves to keep his hands down and has been down 4 of his last 5 fight.

Not a mis match to me and vegas doesnt think so either. martinez is barely -200, hella toss up for a so called mismatch :D

Theres been plenty of fighters that moved up with no soft touch. U gott have some balls. Mosley had some serious balls to even skip 140 and fight DLH at 147. people thought that was a mismatch in DLH's favor, say what if Mosley's power doesnt work at 147, lose speed, how that work out? Different type of fight but its thru history bro, this anit the first time

It's probably a weight to far for cotto and Martinez should stop him but let's be honest both boxers are on the slide a little and it's a decent pay day

I'm honestly up in the air about Cotto-Martines. You'd think Sergio would be the favourite, but maybe he's past it.

It's called cashing out.. Oscar almost made the same mistake against Sturm. Cotto isn't a middleweight and never will be, there would be no point in fighting against a journeyman middleweight and possibly losing his big shot.
