Green Tim Tszyu(somewhere between average-top prospect) also beat the guy that beat Manny That means nothing. If that's his biggest win in a real fight - no, he's not underrated, more like overrated. It's sad we won't see more real fights from Crawdord till the end of his career.Same story for the other top p4p Canelo.
He is overrated. His resume consists of shot Khan, semi-blind Brook and domestic level Horn. He is f*ckin 34 year old and past prime. His first dangerous opponent will be Porter. He ruined his talent and ability.
Crawford isn't underrated in general. As noted above, he is ranked top 3 P4P on many sites and numerous publications. However, I do think that, overall, he is underrated on this website. A lot here think he's great but a lot bad mouth him. Those who downplay his skills mostly tend to base it on the "Who has he fought?" concept. While there is some merit to that idea it is really about who has he fought at welterweight. That ignores what he did at lower weight classes and, just as important for the hard core boxing fans they are, they seem to ignore the eye test. Others talk about Crawford's lack of important welterweight opponents as if it was his fault. It's Al Haymon's fault. There is not a chance Crawford would duck anyone and I don't think Porter, Spence, Garcia or Thurman would duck Crawford. It's all Al Haymon. I respect a high majority of the regulars on this site and while the Crawford badmouthing pales in comparison to the Canelo hatred it is still a bit of a mystery to me.
Overrated people complain about who Canelo unified against but don’t say a word about Crawford fighting Indongo and Postol smh.. this man resume is trash as hell. I thought Postol was a decent win but besides that a inactive blown up Gamboa and twice face broken Brook? How is this man considered top P4P
It's interesting, at one point I felt he was overrated. He's been caught a couple times with some shots and had some issues with fighters that were not creme de la crop. He wasn't in with fighters that were on the top level that could make him pay, and go for it when the opportunity was there. So here comes Porter, a tough strong and proven fighter that has fought the best at that weight. He can bully you, box at times, and even take you out by having more stamina late. So while I see him giving Crawford a real test and a being a danger, I think some may have underrated Crawford's complete arsenal of weapons. Not only physical but mental. He is a bully himself that has tremendous speed and timing, footwork, balance, endurance and probably most important, his mental attributes. He's mentally tough and if he hurts you, has a natural killer instinct. One downside is some questionable opposition and longer periods of inactivity. And, it's always interesting to see how a bully reacts when someone tries to bully them and impose their will on them. He has a wider range of skills, straighter punches, and boxing strategy than someone like Porter who at times looks confused as to is he a brawler, pressure fighter, or boxer/puncher. I expect Crawford to win Saturday & possibly stop Porter late but I could be wrong as Porter is very tough and looked like he was in tremendous shape in the weigh-in. That's all we have been asking from Bud, to fight the real threats and not waste the skills, although Porter's style is in some ways made for him.
I understand your points and I agree with most. I think the issue is a lot of people know Crawford is the goods but the problem is 2 fold. 1) his competition at 147 has been lackluster 2) everyone knew he would have issues getting good fights at 147 when he re-upped with Arum. He's finally got Porter so he'll have a legit top 10 welter to fight.
I think he's one of the best fighters in the game but seeing fight posters proclaiming him as the best p4p fighter in the world is ridiculous in my opinion, top 5 but best fighter in the world? If canelo and usyk retired today ... Possibly
I am really looking forward to the fight. I have to admit that It's too bad they are close to their mid 30s instead of their late 20s but it should still be good.
I don't think so. Crawford is a gifted and intelligent boxer, IMHO. I personally rate him higher and would bet on him against Spence if a fight happen between them. But, I must say his recent career is rather passive, a bit disappointing really.
