One off night where a challenger performs out his skin OR (unlike Buster) is Fury an average big bum who got lucky and who cant really fight?
Yes there are similarities. Buster Douglas ballooned up to 325lbs, then lost his belt vs. Holyfield. Fury ballooned up to 350 lbs, but didn't have the cojones to get in the ring with Wlad.
Douglas exhibited some real skills that night vs Tyson however he will go down in history as one of the worst hwt champions. Fury showed amateur level talent in beating Vitali. One of the lowest skilled world hwt championship performances I have ever witnessed.
It all depends what happens next. Fury might yet have a couple of quality performances in him. If however he doesn’t, then expect "Dusseldorf Fury" to catch on!
Fury is so far beyond the the current crop its not even fair to pit him in there against any of them. He could beat the lower half of the top 10 now with just a weeks notice. He'd take his belt back off Parker without braking a sweat. This guy is some sort of master boxer and it didn't take the Klitschko fight for me to see it. There was virtuoso level skills on display in the Johnson , Chisora and Hammer fights. I saw it with my own two eyes. 6'9 and moves with the rhythm and fluidity of a light weight. Compare him to another guy his size - Maariuz Wach and he comes away looking like a HW Floyd Mayweather. Show me a guy who plays with their opponents like Fury done with Chisora , Hammer and Wladimir Klitschko. He brought the lost art of body shotting back into the division after a 20 year absence. Just look at him!!! https://gfycat.com/DopeyNaughtyDorado https://gfycat.com/GlaringPassionateBluetonguelizard https://gfycat.com/TediousAltruisticAmericanblackvulture https://gfycat.com/CelebratedConcreteBison
Fury isnt that skilled as much as he has size and a 85 inch reach. His punches are ponderous and lack any real snap, hes probably somewhat heavy handed at 6'9 but thats subjective.what he has is the size factor, Hughie is actually the more skilled one but less effective fighter. fury could probably beat many top guys but i wouldnt have him top 10 head to head without further evidance because Wlad wouldnt be aggressive....sorry it doesnt work like that.
Fury has the frame to be the best fighter in history. Out boxing him from range will be almost impossible whilst he's prime healthy. Defeating him up close will be almost impossible if he can master the clinch like Perry did. Or he get sparked by Wilder and go down as a flash in the pan.
