After the Matthysse fight, was he irreparably damaged? I think there may be a case for it. His return fight, against Herrerra, was expected to be a soft touch in front of PR fans to boost his profile. We all know what happened there... end of the fight he was a bloody mess and getting battered with head-snapping shots. Now the fight with Rod Salka, we don't even have to talk about that. I think Matthysse has permanently ruined Garcia. Which is a shame because he's young and should have had a full career ahead of him.
Dunno he seems like he has lost that motivation... I was thinking earlier today that maybe it's a move by Haymon & co to save him ready for Floyd in 2015...Easy fight for Floyd that looks credible...
No I don't think so. Herrera is quite good and would be the best in the division if he had power. The only way to not look bad against him is to ko him quickly. This next fight will confirm one of our positions.
I think Garcia was not ruined by Matty... so much as he was ruined by wanting to be a media star more than a boxing star. I think the Hollywood lifestyle has gotten to him, where what he really wants to do is rap and make "music" videos with hot girls instead of get punched in the face for a living. Fighters who genuinely think they can be crossover stars seem to have their career end up in the toilet. I think we are witnessing a trainwreck in slow motion and I think thats why.
No, just try to give Herrera some credit for a change. I know the media didn't advertise him as the next big thing for people to recognize him but that means absolutely ***** **** when your eyes and brains work to see and identify that he actually had ability compared to what he was advertised as prior to this fight.
I knew the moment that fight was made it would backfire, it had nothing to do with the Matthysse. That fight is part of the reason I started posting, even though I've been following the forum for years, I knew Herrera would do exactly what he did, and if alot of posters had followed his career, they would have realized, his chin and style would give Danny a ton of troubles. But I would have had the **** beaten out of me for picking him, so I didn't say anything.
I never saw the Alvarado fight, do you think he got jobbed on that? The score cards seemed pretty wide. I can't see a one dimensional guy like Alvarado easily beating mo.
I rolled my eyes when i saw the OP's title of the thread but it was a great post. We do know that Danny was pretty busted up after that fight and he didn't seem comfortable in his last fight. Given that his upcoming fight is beyond soft, it would lean towards Danny, at a minimum, is at least still shook from that fight.
It was a very close fight, they beat the **** out of each other, it was pretty much a brawl. The 96-94 score was the most accurate, I believe, I haven't seen it for awhile I may change my mind, if I watch it again. There was a 99-91 score that was ridiculous, Mauricio chose to slug it out instead of intelligently boxing, which backfired on him a little.
