    OK, I got you.

It was the "control the three judges" option you had in mind.

Ward only won in the minds of the three American judges.

80% of the viewing public agreed with the three judges and scored the fight for Ward. So did I, and I give huge merit to Kovalev for fighting the good fight.
Kovalev is definitely #2 P4P, behind #1 Ward.

    No they didn't.

ESB poll with around 400 responses scored it 75 % for Kovalev.

The Press boxing correspondents scored it for Kovalev around 75 %

Kovalev landed more punches, landed the better punches, Knocked Ward down ,busted his face up and by any reasonable measure, won the fight.

This. Salido was muscling Loma, who doesn't seem comfortable on the inside. Ward also got extremely lucky that Kovalev also had no inside game and let him back into the fight. Nobody at 160 is muscling GGG. Jacobs needs to use his hand speed and keep GGG off him. Since Jacobs showed against Pirog he isn't comfortable with being crowded.

Yeah, in the world of the official record.

That world where Evander holds a D with Lennox, Tito has a W over Oscar and Timmy has a W over Pac.

But in the real world, Andre got slapped around.

Why do people think Eastern Euros have common styles and common weaknesses? GGG, Loma and Kovalev all fight differently, I can't even think of a single thing that all three of them would have in common.

I think GGG is quite comfortable fighting dirty and from close range, it's just that he hasn't had a proper chance to show it. He has the proper physique for an inside fighter and seems to generate crazy power at any distance, just like Beterbiev. He's a relatively short, compact fighter with power and chin. I don't think it would be smart to try to bring the fight to him and try to rough him up.

Kovalev is a rangy fighter that relies on straight punches. His power punches are the straight right and the jab and to land those punches effectively you need range. He'll always going to have trouble with fighters who can close the distance and fight at close range. He relies on his power and accuracy to keep people away and the only reason Ward was able to come close at times was because Ward is a master at coming forward while counterpunching. You can't just learn that over night.

GGG is a totally different type of fighter than Kovalev in many ways, he generates power in all kinds of punches, he is a relatively short compact durable fighter and has a short reach (which is a huge advantage when fighting inside). He's also insanely strong for his size (in terms of pure physical strength). He just seems like a natural talent for inside fighting and I really doubt it would be a smart idea to test that aspect of his game.

Did you see the videos of GGG instructing Barrera how to fight in the clinch?

He seems quite comfortable at that aspect of boxing. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a ton of dirty tricks for those situations as well.

That's the reason I have GGG as a favorite against Ward if they ever meet. I think Ward would try to test GGG's inside game and end up getting roughed up himself.

    No I dont think so.

~ G is nothing like Kova n Loma. They need their range a lot more then he does.

~ Jacobs isn't the type of fighter that can fight effectively in that manner. You're talking about Ward and Salido... two fighters that are good at that style.

You take a fragile fighter and force him to change his style to try and battle on the inside against a much better opponent with more power better chin and who himself is probably better on the inside and who likes wars, and its a recipe for disaster imo.

Yeah count me among those that think Jacobs should try to get his work done on the outside, trying to limit action and exchanges as much as possible.

Meaning the win when you should have been DQ'd and win when you clearly lost blueprints? Sure, if he gets the right judges and ref he can't lose. That's a foolproof plan.
