It really hurts him that he missed Roy Jones IMO.. It hurts Roy a bit too, but he still has Hopkins and Toney. Not to mention being a HW world champ.
Good point. He hadn't done a deal. But Roy was only 24 and he had a hairline fracture of his right wrist. Hopkins didn't lose another fight for 12 years, and the two fights with Taylor in 2005 were controversial. In 2010 Bernard said "The only fighter to beat me clean was Roy Jones." So take into account what Bernard went on to achieve, and take into account that Roy wasn't at his best, and you'll see that it's a very good win.
I think you know as well as I do, that sometimes what a fighter does after a loss can be more important that what he had done before. Though he was ranked #1 by the IBF, higher than Roy actually. When you take into account what Hopkins did after Roy beat him, and look back on that fight, you realize it was a great win, and the fight was fought at an extremely high level. Hopkins was a great fighter in the making, that happened to meet a young Roy Jones, did well, but got outclassed in the end. Hopkins had elite ability when he lost to Roy.
How did you count 10? I counted 5, WBA, WBC, WBO and IBF only. You must have counted some bogus belts.
The only way you could possibly, in any way, shape or form, say that he is worthy is by being familiar with both him and the Hall of Fame. But, that's pretty much the only way to make a case for him.
There obviously are lesser and lesser known boxers in the HOF, but that's the issue with it. It's so inconsistent.
