A bit but he seems skilled he just needs better fights and he needs to forget about Canelo focus on becoming the new face of boxing
Yup. I know. I’m interested to see if that silly b0llocks continues when they’re in actual negotiations. I don’t think Bivol even gets to 190 when he rehydrates. At least not regularly.
Obviously Glanton is a limited fighter when you compare him to Jai and his diverse skillset. And obviously Jai was expected to win and win well, but short of knocking him out, I don’t know how he could look less mediocre? He 12-0d him. You’re just saying stuff now. And fighting an unathletic former 175lb Zurdo and overpowering him physically in the clinch doesn’t mean he’d be able to do the same against a shredded athletic natural 200lb bloke in Jai. There will come a point where David isn’t the stronger fighter who can impose his will as easily, and I’m saying that point is Jai Opetaia. I could see Benavidez winning the fight on points if the judges prefer volume to solid good quality connects, but I don’t think he’d have it all his own way. I also wouldn’t expect Jai to purposefully fight to a game plan that directly favoured Benavidez.
You can win 12-0 and still look mediocre. If you can't grasp then concept then you need to stop debating boxing. Zurdo was 30lbs bigger. David did not over power him in the clinch he out punched him. David is great at getting leverage on the inside and finding openings, and letting off fast combinations. Jai was not impressive in the clinch with Glanton in comparison. Remember all the nasty left hooks david was landing on Zurdo on the inside every time he had a fraction of space. He's amazing at exploiting the smallest openings. I don't think Jai has the experience to deal with someone like that.
I don't care whether Benavidez is overrated or underrated whatever. He has climbed weights looking for big fights. Canelo never wanted the fight. Bivol and Beterbiev are tied up with their series. He went up and won a title fight at cruiser. I'm impressed that he's fighting good opposition in interesting fights despite being frozen out of the best fights in his real weights of 168 and 175. I just want to see him get a big fight, I don't need to see Beterbiev vs Bivol III, I'd rather see Benavidez vs Bivol
Care to explain exactly how he looked mediocre then? If you’re saying a shut out can be mediocre, the burden of proof is on you. And don’t tell me to stop debating boxing when you’ve disengaged from debate with me twice in this thread already. Zurdo was nowhere near 30lb bigger. And overpowering in the clinch is “being better in the clinch” ie, either outmuscling to get into favourable positions/breaking, or getting your arm(s) free and landing consequential shots. So thanks for supporting my point! I dare say Glanton (a shredded, physically strong brawler) is leagues stronger than Zurdo. Jai (a mid range boxer puncher) was obviously not going to get the better of the clinch exchanges against Glanton, but he would have the physical strength advantage over Benavidez. Yeah, of course he might get hit in the clinch, but David has never had to close the distance against such a sharp and dangerous puncher as Opetaia.
I disengaged because it was a waste of time and going around in circles. So you want me to explain something you were not capable of comprehending when you watched the fight? Ok. First he went the distance with a punching bag bum. Secondly he got hit too much, and spent too much of the fight in the clinch, and overall just looked sloppy against a show case opponent. David was 204 in the ring, Zurdo was close to 230. Zurdo was not really clinching they were just leaning on each other working in the pocket, which is what Jai was doing with Glanton but David was far more impressive vs the much bigger man. Jai was too sloppy on the inside and looked very hittable.
Losing efforts generally are a waste of time, so fair enough for seeing that in advance and saving yourself the embarrassment. No, I was expecting you to substantiate your contrarian argument. Glanton is a tough fringe-world-level operator who gave CBS issues (who in turn gave Zurdo issues). I’m happy to concede Zurdo was “close to 230” if you can provide a decent source but I haven’t seen one, and his rehydrated weights have been closer to 215 ish since he moved up. So if David and Zurdo weren’t clinching, why were you comparing Opetaia’s success against Glanton in the clinch with David’s performance against Zurdo in a clinch that wasn’t particularly a factor in their fight?
Andrade weighed in at 167.6 and Benavidez 167.0 Andrade redydrated to 190 on fight night which was heavier than David's fight night weight against Gvozdyk. Like I said you have no idea what you are talking about, you don't know basic facts. This content is protected
And a supposed elite level fighter should walk through fringe world level fighter like David walked through a unified champion. Get the point? Do you have eyes? You could not tell zurdo was way bigger than David in the ring? Where is your citation for 215lbs? It's obvious he was way bigger. You are being pedantic. They were inside fighting which involved some clinching but not to a great extent. However you want to class it, David was far more impressive inside.
Okay, fair. That’s heavier than you’d expect for Andrade. I’ll give you that. But as for your second point, that’s heavier by 1lb. As a rehydrated weight, that is completely negligible. That’s a difference of a bottle of water. It’s not particularly easy to see David’s fight night weight for the Adrade fight. 1 - styles make fights. Some people are durable and able to go rounds. I don’t remember CBS (who was competitive with Zurdo) hurting Glanton. So I’m fairly confident that Zurdo wouldn’t either. 2 - Zurdo looked bigger than David on the night. But have found no sources that put him at significantly above 215 on fight night. As far as David’s decisive victory is concerned, it was predicated on his familiarity with Zurdo from sparring. This is important context you’re missing out. Feel free to provide a source for Zurdo weighing in at 230lbs
