The ko of DeWitt was shocking. He went toe to toe with Hearns but Benn pulverized Doug.

 

Lemieux went pro at 18 and is an aggressive pressure fighter with a bulldoozing jab. Remember he throws it off the foot presided by a right hand going across the body which enables David to crank his body to the left and throw out a ko LH Benn's toughest fights were against pressure fighters and yes he was knocked down by a jab.

 

I see the similarities in that they throw a lot of missing/wild punches and of course the power and speed. Also they both take sudden lapses or take brakes that is very apparent.

 

You don't even pronounce half of Lemieux's name. Where's the X ffs? Look at Benn, though. It's Bennnn. They are very different on that front.

 

So by that comparison we are saying that Benn is the black Lemiuex???

Please , Nigel is so so so much more. Also the men that beat Nigel were levels above Rubio etc.

Benn out-boxed Eubank in their second fight in many ways! He also out-boxed 6ft3 light-heavys (Morgan, Piper)!

I was a big fan of Benn, but well aware of his limitations.

Too many posters giving Benn way too much credit.

Against Eubank, Watson and Collins, he was found wanting.

He should have lost against Gman ffs, he was on the canvass for well over 10 seconds, then when Gman jumped on him after the knockdown, the ref split them up and gave Benn another breather.

Where was this legendary bob and weave defence once he got back to his feet ? He spent the rest of the round with his head below McLellans waist, trying to cuddle him and windmilling punches at thin air when he eventually stood up.

Now i'll ask again, who did Benn beat ?

Entertaining fighter, with an exciting style and heavy hands, but numerous flaws.

He got a get out of jail card against a damaged fighter in McLellan, and as for Barkley and Dewitt.

 

He did quit against Watson and Collins (twice), he was mentally frail and overly emotional. But he had a tremendous ammount of natural talent and gifted athletic ability, and more aggression than pretty much anyone.

Benn out-boxed McClellan in many ways the way he ducked and weaved to get under McClellan's loose long shots and come up with his tight compact hooks, uppercuts and short crosses.

 

Not as refine.....but yes! absolutely I see Benn in Lemieux. Benn was meaner too...but I think Nigel was on another level. Stylistically they have similarities.
