i dont think he could beat anyone half decent these days ,hes going to have to do better than monte though if he wants a title shot ,should be jumping in there with the likes of valuev, holyfield would still smash him
probably no where near "the best" fighter not to have a title. BTW, he's had some bad luck/managment sure, but he is not without blame. for instance, his 03 fight w/ rahman was an eliminator i think and he totally pissed away the chance to win that fight clearly by showing up like at 260 and fighting like a sloth. rahman (like tua) looked **** (and was way heavy) that night and you'd think tua should've done more preparing and in that important fight
i think it was ruled a draw right? yeah could've been a great fight of two good hws in their primes who both have power. i remember going to a buddy's house who had hbo to watch it (and making him watch it), and it was sooo disappointing it was almost a joke.
alright i was just interested i never followed his career much cas im not really interested in the higher weights but i seen alot of people talkin about him on here checked him out on wikipedia to find he never held a world title i was just a bit surprised
he was a good boxer. a lot of people will tell you he had no defense, but he did. the thing is he's 5'9 fighting guys who are 6'3 - 6'5 and he's not on the level of the greats who could pull such things off style wise.
He still has a narrow opportunity to get a belt. It could still happen because the power is still there.
I agree with this but in response to some other comments, I think Tua has underrated boxing ability. He is much more than chin and power. But, no he's ridiculously far from the Langfords of the world. But, to touch on that, if you've won a colored world title like Langford had during his era, to me, that's a world title. He was a champion, as far as I'm concerned. Same going for Wills and many others.
Too short to compete against the super heavyweights, i think he over achieved to get a shot at the world heavyweight title...
With all the recent title holders within the last decade or so. It's surprising that Tua was never able to get his hands on one. He's beaten quite a few former and future champions though.
His title shot was against Lennox Lewis - exactly the worst type of fighter he could have faced due to his height and ability to box. He would have had a better chance fighting Joe Louis or Muhamed Ali, who IMO are both better than Lewis.
Tua was 245 vs Rahman II, not 260. What's interesting is that he's only had ONE chance at a title, not that he never had a title.
