Kessler was not beaten before fighting Calzaghe, so the argument that he is beaten now (by Calzaghe) is just funny. The only legitimate comparison is both Kessler and Dawson at the time they fight Joe. Dawson beat bigger names but was much less convincing in these. Tarver is very inconsistent as the legitimate contender (lucky KO over Jones, then struggling with Johnson and embarassing lose to Hopkins), Johnson is not less inconsistent than Tarver, Adamek was weight drained (he walks above 200lb now) and explored Dawson chin a little bit. So again: Dawson have bigger names but here are serious issues also. Kessler was more convincing at that time as the serious opponent.
You can invent any excuse you want in order to diminish Damwson's wins. The fact of the matter is, he's beaten stiffer comp than Kessler. Kessler's best win is Mundine, that's all you need to know about his level of comp. Anyone with two eyes can see who the better fighter is between the two.
i've got two eyes and i'm telling you you're wrong. instead of judging him why you dont you say why.........
Because it's ridiculous for me to have to point out the obivious. Dawson is faster, has the better footwork, and better offensive variety. He's a better defensive fighter as well. Kessler is a solid fighter, no doubt about that. However, his offense is very predictable. I don't rate him very high defensively, and I believe and competent offensive fighter can lay hands on him.
Beating better competition does not extend to be better fighter. Kessler before Calzaghe beat Mudine, Beyer and Andrade ... all top dogs and he beat them convincingly without any flaw. Dawson beat bigger names but he struggled with Johnson and was almost taken out by Adamek, not mention he is legitimately ducking Diaconu ... off course that is better resume but is not an indication of being better fighter. I'm not arguing that Kessler was better opponent to fight Calzaghe, I'm saying they are on SIMILAR HIGH-level, nothing more or less. Kessler was the carrier define win for Calzaghe and key to HOF gate, Dawson may be the key to secure ATG status.
but kessler has the better resume. the way things are going dawson's going to find out how good he really is before kessler anyway because he's backing himself to do it - and his managerial team are too.
i agree. but the sad thing about this is kessler wants these big fights. he just has a ***** promotional team since he lost to calzaghe and kessler needs to put 2 and 2 together like ricky hatton did and realise his promoter is just trying to milk him.
http://www.thering-online.com/ratings/light_heavyweight/ http://www.fightnews.com/?page_id=55 Fightnews actually has Tarver at no.6, close enough. http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/columns/story?columnist=rafael_dan&id=3222461 Rafael has Tarver at 6 as well, once again that's close enough. http://www.boxrec.com/ratings.php?sex=m&division=Light Heavyweight
Dawson has been trying to fight him since before the Kessler fight. Hopkins called him out after he beat Wright as well.
i think dawson has proven his name is in the discussion. he beat tarver and because tarver hasa rematch clause he will beat him again. He fought nose to nose with Glen J. some say he lost some say he won..he did more than joe C and at least took the fight. Dawson needs to be tested..only problem is the fighters that will test him the most dont seem to want to fight him
