I really don't think so, but he is an interesting fighter. Maybe I'm wrong.

It's really too soon to tell is what I should say. He has never even seen a third round as a pro. I definitely think he has potential. I guess I'm just used to seeing the American heavyweights turn to sh*t these days.

i hate to say it but the next great American heavyweight is probably an infant right now...possibly hasn't even been born yet...its gonna be a little while before we have another electrifying heavyweight...the last one we had was Mike Tyson.

Very good and naturally athletic, I like the kid.. he has skills that are now becoming second nature to him as is a novice pro, racking up the wins is the next step, seasoning , and garnishing his record to gain some experience as a pro..

He has massive talent, but he's still raw. We will see in a few years if he is a legit threat.

He scored a KO1 over the unheralded Jerry Vaughn earlier this month as I posted. He's got nothing lined up yet last time I checked.

As for the Klitschkos, I do not in any way see Vitali still being around when this kid gets out of the woods and Wladimir I have doubts about too. I think he's not going to stick around all that much longer either. Probably be retiring within the next two years and that's about the time Wilder(It's Wilder, not Dewilder by the way) would be seasoned enough to go for it. Then again, this guy has had eight fights this year. They are moving him along. Just not against anybody you'd think would really test him. Which is probably okay up to this point. But right now is about the time they need to have him against somebody a little better. Not a lot but a little.

19-29-5 is the combined record of his eight opponents. Considering he's flat out murdered all of them inside two, he's not gaining that much experience. He needs somebody they're sure he can beat who will go 4-5 rounds without being stopped. He needs rounds. None of his guys have even made it to the start of the third. Haye might see him in the ring, if his statement on retiring early proves false, which I think it will.

Deontay Wilder might develop into a decent heavyweight...but I never see him developing into the next heavyweight great.

He started late in the sport, he is still very raw, and has not shown tremendous athleticism.

Read the new ESPN magazine article on former Miami FB Quadtrine Hill. He sounds very promising and the guy who started all that seems to be onto something. Basically he is taking many former football players that have the athleticism to accel at the highest level but for some reason don't reach their potential. When they are no longer in football he offers to train them in boxing. This dude has been shadow boxing with Wlad already and is a future sparring partner for him. His first sparring session was against a pro who already had 20 pro fights and they said you couldn't tell who was pro and who wasn't. There is reason for hope.

He needs some dcent training, still makes a lot of mistakes which is a given considering his lack of experience.

I really like the guy though.

Kind of sounds the same when Floyd and his boys here on ESB constantly harp on Pac's early losses, does it not?

I understand this isn't about them, just pointing that out :hey

BrikHaus put me onto Deontay, I sure hope he's the real thing, liking what I see so far.

Wilder is still developing and already mentioned but caught onto boxing at a later age. he needs to keep stepping up his opposition slowly, and way too early to write him off yet as he's only had 6 or 7 pro fights I believe

"has not shown tremendous athleticism" in regards to that, probably true, but how many boxers out there do display this tremendous athleticism

because in other sports like basketball or track and field athleticism is relatively easy to judge, be it with very quick/fast movements or jumping ability

the only boxer that immediately comes to mind in regards to tremendous athleticism would be of course Roy Jones Jr. back in his prime
