Definitely underrated! So much so that Bradley thought he could try & brawl with him like he tried with Prov & Pac. But being feather fisted cost him a victory! Had he boxed, Bradley probably would have fared better with the judges. Chaves however, can bang with anybody at welter.
I think Bradley won clearly, but Chavez made him work hard for that win. And Chavez has some serious power, he didn't get to hit Bradley clean, but those punches were still affecting Bradley. What Chavez does have that is underrated is that jab, probably his best weapon vs Bradley. Had he used it to score more, the fight would of been closer, cuz he was finding Bradley alot with that jab. Even triple jabbed on Bradley once, forgot what round it was? But hell, I don't remember anyone triple jabbing Bradley, even Bradley was noticeably ****ed off about it. If Diego follows the Maidana formula being more jab dependent or teams up with Robert Garcia, you'll have another Argentine nightmare in the ww division.
He is probably the best welterweight in the world that lacks a signature official W beyond domestic or regional level. (his best result is his KO2 of Ismael El Massoudi, who's European level, with all the rest of Chaves' successes coming in his native Argentina versus journeymen - but he is clearly able to hang with the world class tier head to head...)
C+ yet fought on even terms with Thurman until the eighth, was beating Rios before the DQ, and gave Bradley a close fight? (though he was lucky to get a draw instead of a loss) ...okay...
