Uhhh...Anthony Hanshaw was 6'0 and 21-1 before Dirrell pasted him.

victor oganov was undersized, but a strong, tough, pretty durable, good fighter. he just looked like a stiff because dirrell put up such a clinic on him switching fluidly between accurate, measured hard shots and quick, scoring flurries from all angles.

mike paschall was shorter than dirrell, but, not drastically so--he was 5'9"-5'10" and he was an unbeaten prospect with some good wins and experience by the time direll dismantled him. again, paschall wasn't a pushover. dirrell is just a terrific young fighter who uses his rangy-stuff well to set up his power shots and knows how to avoid wasting his advantages fighting in a phone booth.

it is worth pointing out that the super middleweight division has, for any number of reasons a surplus of strong bodied, perhaps, over-muscled guys between 5'7" and 5'10"...but, then again, jeff lacy is probably a natural junior middleweight, welterweight if you want to push the road work card in terms of finding your best, tightest fighting weight, and he held titles in the division. so, it's hard to say.

He's the #1 contender for the WBO title, and is ranked in the top 10 by all 4 major organizations. He'll eventually get his title shot, he's probably going to wait for Karoly Balzsay to defend his title than fight him.

Dirrell is really good and have killing speed but need to step it up a notch...His opposition isn't that bad but he shoud be tested against a strong, legitimate contender...like Andrade,Bika,Green,etc...

    Yes he would.

I can't believe showtime showed such a mismatch. Boring.

i agree with you though...not only will dirrell's marketability plateau if he keeps beating guys who are (or are merely seen to be) subpar opposition. there is a certain danger in a young fighter getting used to fighting a particular general shape of opponent and exploiting only advantages particular to fighting one type of opponent. against tall, rangy, quick opposition dirrell will have to turn with his jab more to generate trickier angles around the jab.

also, i think he's ready to test himself against a better class of fighter, regardless of the dimensions of that fighter. i mean, he'd have a few inches on mads larsen--who is listed at 5'11 1/2" but is really more like 5'10"--but i'd like to see him get in with a serious, experienced guy who has been in with all kinds of fighters and seen it all. dirrell's athletic gifts have been able to rattle his opponents...i would like to see him in with larsen or vitali tsypko or brian magee who have kind of seen it all and know how to breathe and hunker down and grind hard against a really talented athlete. if dirrell passes such a test, i think he ought to go after the bottom of the top 15 and see if he is ready to follow where his gifts lead, which, i think, is, sooner or later, to a world title.

    What a whack thread...:patsch

    Pure hate.

Dirrell has a handful of fights and already clowns are calling for him to fight champs and top level fighters...Give him time.

My guess is the thread starter is merely counting the days until Dirrell loses a fight..It may be along wait.

He fought a taller opponent before that had a decent record on paper.
I think he is overly protected as of now, which is OK but also open to deserved criticism.
