who do you think deserves to be fighter of the year? donaire fought 3 times vs good opponents but there's no real standouts. ward only fought once. same with mayweather.

if marquez beat pac in their fourth fight maybe he gets it depending on how the fight goes.

It looks that way. Salido would have had a good shot if he had fought and beaten Mikey Garcia but obviously that won't happen now. If Donaire fight Arce in December like Bob suggested (seems unlikely) then he'll be fighter of the year for sure.

It wouldn't surprise me if Ring Magazine makes Canelo fighter of the year though.

Brian Viloria would be a solid choice too if he beats Tyson Marquez impressively. That would give him a win over the number 2 guy in the division plus his great revenge stoppage of Sosa. That might top Donaire since Donaire looked off his game against Mathebula and Vasquez

    SD12 Wilfredo Vazquez Jr.
    UD12 Jeffrey Mathebula
    TKO9 Toshiaki Nishioka

It's certainly not a very strong FOTY resume compared to previous winners, but for 2012, Donaire is clearly the deserving fighter.

The other candidates have just one victory going for them: Mayweather over Cotto, Froch over Bute, and Ward over Dawson. Froch fights Mack next month but no matter what happens, I don't think that's enough to overtake Donaire in my opinion.

Winner of Pacquiao/Marquez IV would have a case, but even going into it I've almost already made my decision that I'd pick Donaire as FOTY with whichever outcome.

Yeah, the individual wins and the performances attached to them aren't great by themselves but that one was for the WBO title, the next for the WBO and IBF in a unification and the next for the Ring title, is hard stuff on paper to overcome. Also, even though, again, Vazquez had been stopped by Arce, I did feel he'd become an improved fighter since and Nishioka, despite the surprisingly bad performance, hadn't been bested in several years. So, ending the streak was meaningful enough, I think.

Surprisingly, one of the top fighters this year very well could be:
    Danny Garcia
    UD12 Erik Morales
    TKO4 Amir Khan
    ? Erik Morales II

Somewhere in the top 10 or 15 candidates would be:
    Mario Rodriguez
    KO5 Gilberto Keb Baas
    KO4 Armando Vazquez
    KO7 Nkosinathi Joyi

The winner of Mares-Moreno could get attention, depending on how impressive the performance is.

If Lopez beat Canelo there's no doubt he is.

Garcia and Donaire goes head to head this year however, another fight for Donaire will seal the deal.

Donaire needs to take a rest. he needs to heal his left hand before it gets any worse. he's done for the year.

I know, but I'm just assuming that snake Arum will indeed push Donaire-Arce in december.
