1 - 2 against leonard K.O'd by hearns lost to hagler should have probably lost to barkley 1 - 1 agaisnt esteban de jesus some good wins when he was at the lower weights but I still say he stopped ken bunchanan with a punch to the balls
what he did and how he did it will never be repeated again, ever. his resume is absolutely ridiculous when you factor in the names and weights of these challenges.
Depends where you rate him. But the win over Leonard is one of the best wins ever. Leonard was prime, Duran was naturally smaller. Imagine if Pac had moved up and beat a prime Mayweather, it's that caliber of win. Sure he lost to Hearns but style wise that was a nightmare for him. 6 inches in height, 12 inches in reach! Hearns was prime as at his best weight at the time. I can't think of any former lightweights I'd favour over that Hearns at that weight. He lost to Hagler but he only just lost to Hagler, he should of been thrashed. He was 32 and 25lbs above his best weight against a prime Hagler.
Duran started off as a super-bantam and he fought SRL (a consensus top 3 welter of all time) ranked #9 in the Ring's greatest fighters of the last 80 years (in 2002) and he fought him in SRL's country and on neutral turf Hagler (a consensus top 3 middleweight of all time, arguably #1) , ranked #17 in the Ring's greatest fighters of all time, in Hagler's country Hearns (a consensus top 3 junior-middle of all time, arguably #1) in Hearns' country, ranked #67 in the Ring's greatest 80 fighters of all time Benitez (a consensus top 5 junior-middle of all time), ranked #68 on the Ring's greatest fighters of the last 80 years, in Benitez's country He fought in many different countries: Panama, America, Argentina, Mexico, France, Costa Rica, Canada, South Africa and fought many of his opponents in their backyards/home countries where the deck was stacked heavily against him and in their favour He fought Iran Barkey when he was 38 years old and had been in more wars than the British army. Barkey had just sparked out a 42-2 Tommy Hearns in his previous fight and he would go on to lose a SD to a prime Michael Nunn in his very next fight after Duran beat him. Barkley was a beast of a man and puncher and he was an enormous MW. Duran looked like a flyweight next to him and he was giving away at least 60lbs if not more. Duran was the devil incarnate This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
Slightly??? Almost as over rated a the myth of this guy named prime Tyson, whoever the phuck that dude is
Not at all. I mean sometimes there are a bit too many excuses made for him but he deserves to be ranked as an ATG.
Not to mention putting on a masterclass in scientific street fighting and utterly ruining Davey Moore in 1983, at a time when pretty much everyone apart from Roberto Duran, his team and his loyalest fans had written Duran off as finished. Roberto Duran is my favourite of all the Four Kings (with Marvelous Marvin Hagler a distant second) for many of the reasons you stated. But just imagine how much better he could've been if he'd just restrained himself some from blowing up in weight so badly between fights, and having to make such huge weight cuts? That's the frightening thing.
Yes his performance against Moore was brilliant and equally brutal. Duran was definitely a mean, dare I say even evil SOB lol. He's mine too. I love Hagler as well though, and I really like Hearns and Leonard too, although the later is my least favourite of the four. Yeah Duran could've been even better if he was more disciplined - now there's a scary thought lol
He was a horrible ****. One of the immortals. Arguably - arguably - there has been no better boxer, ever, at any weight.
Not at all, one of the greatest light weights ever, could hang in any era you put him in. The guys he lost too in his prime tend to be ATGs and that’s no slight against him when you are competing with bigger talented men.
Saying **** this stupid should get you temp-banned from a boxing forum. Funny thing is, I'm not really joking.
Put it this way....Imagine Hopkins has the run he did at MW but with better competition. Imagine he then steps up 2 divisions and beats one of the ATG's at that weight. Not Antonio Tarver, but someone like Mike Spinks in his prime, Roy Jones or even Ezzard Charles. Then, after a brutal KO at CW against Holyfield, he goes up to HW and gives Tyson an incredibly close fight. He loses, but wins a HW belt over someone the calibre of Frank Bruno or David Haye after that. That's a simile for Duran's career. It is quite frankly astonishing .
