Duran is one of the greatest. His victory over Barkley was one of the greatest achievements in boxing history.

Look at the size difference (6'1, 74 inch reach vs 5'7, 66 inch reach) and the age difference. Duran weighed at 156 for the fight. On fight night, Barkley probably had 20 lbs on him. He took a monster left hook from Barkley that nearly took his head off and stay composed to knock Barkley down and win a decision.

He won that fight with precision punching, rocking Barkley throughout the fight. It was a marvel to see.

1st off he was 2-1 against DeJesus, the loss coming in at over the limit weight. In the 2 rematches, he destroyed Esteban. If youre going to write insanity, at least get the facts right. 2nd Leonard, Hagler and Hearns (as well as Benitez for that matter) are all legitimate atgs at their best weights which are larger than Duran's prime at lightweight. Btw the way, he legitimately beat Barkley. Please watch the fight again- thats if you have in the 1st place. And as far as watching fights is concerned, you need to watch the Buchanan fight in the 1st place, because if you had, you would have seen Roberto beating Kenny from pillar to post for 13 rounds, winning at least 9 rounds in the process although kenny had aome moments. If you had seen the fight you would have known that Duran landed the balls punch after Kenny had thrown 2 punches clearly after the bell had rung.

Just for once stop this. Nobody is making excuses when they claim Duran was naturally smaller than Leonard, Hearns, Benitez and Hagler. He was. That's just a fact. Look at the tale of the tape. He was shorter, had a shorter reach, smaller chest, smaller arms, but had a larger waist when he arrived at 154. Just because he fought at 154 before those guys did does not make 154 his natural weight. Thats absolute nonsense. What you need to do is stop making excuses for Leonard's loss to Duran because you are a hypocrite.

There you go making excuses for Leonard's loss to Duran YET AGAIN. Quite hypocritical of you.

Hagler and Barkley giving his credit says that he was good enough at those weights, and still people say he was not. And Hearns and Benitez beat him at that weight below where Barkley and Hagler did. This is a valid point and anyone who hears it knows it is.
The hypocrits would be the people who want to say Duran was great when he fought at 154 and 160 against Moore and Barkley, yet he was small against Hearns and Benitez, when he fought there before they did as early as 1978.. That is good evidence, and to argue this fact saying I am a hypocrit, is more excuses and not really valid at all. Excuses are saying he had shorter reach and all this, and yet Tyson was smaller and won his fights against bigger guys. Hearns beat Virgil Hill who was undefeated and younger and 10 title defenses 30 pounds over the first weight Hearns won his first title. So much for excuses.

I said facts. Where are the excuses? He beat Duran 2 out of 3 times. And Hearns beat Duran. Benitez beat Duran. Hagler beat Duran. What are the excuses.

I could tell it was Barkley from the names and mention Nigel Benn. I like those little quizzes although sometimes they don't match. You would think if they fought the same guys, they would have the same guys as the ones who were say strongest or hardest puncher. I am not knocking it really. I still enjoy it, especially when they explain their answers.

BI: Which fights in your career do you feel you were at your very best?

Iran Barkley: “All of them. I must say all of them. From when I was coming up, I was at my best in all of ‘em. I put my heart all the way into it. All the way until the end.”

BI: Your fights with Thomas Hearns were amazing. He’s an all-time great, you were the decided underdog, but you bested him not once but twice. What do you remember from those fights?

Iran Barkley “I remember the first time everybody was saying that he was gonna beat me. I knew he was a good fighter and everything. But that didn’t matter, I was determined. I knew that I was gonna beat him. And I knew how I was gonna beat him. And the only way was to beat him impressive. I knew I had to make a statement.”

BI: What was your gameplan? Why did you know you could beat him, I mean, that was Thomas “The Hitman” Hearns.”

Iran Barkley “Well, true it was Thomas Hearns. But I waited my whole life to do that. I looked to fight all the great ones. My strategy was just to go in there and take him out.”

BI: Was there a moment in that fight when you saw in him that he realized what he was in for? That defeat was inevitable?

Iran Barkley: “Definitely. Like in the second round. When I jumped on him and got serious about doing what I was gonna do, instead of boxing him, after I got all cut up. He knew how hard it was gonna be for him. He knew he was in for a rude awakening.”

BI: Did he praise you after the fight?

Iran Barkley: “Well, you know, Tommy said to me, ‘Good fight.’ It wasn’t much that he would say. They’d just carried him out.”

BI: Have you seen him lately?

Iran Barkley: “I’ve seen him once or twice. We speak but he still’s got that driving energy that he still got to beat me [smiles].”

BI: Would you say Hearns was your toughest opponent?

Iran Barkley: “The toughest I had to fight? I would say Duran was like the toughest. Because I had to stay smart, to be smart to compete with him. You had to always keep your eyes opened with him. You never knew with Duran, he could be so crafty. He wasn’t that powerful a puncher but he was powerful enough to hang in. I was so much bigger than him you see but that crazy son of a ***** still gave me everything I could handle and some”

BI: You say you were much bigger than him? You were known for cutting a lot of weight. How much did you used to cut back then when you campaigned at middleweight?

Iran Barkley: ''Making weight was sheer torture for me. Man that was tough. I used to have to come down from like 235-240 and then eat like a horse nonstop after the weigh in to put it all back on. I weighed 226 for the Duran fight.''

BI: Was there one fight you really wanted but never got?

Iran Barkley “I wanted Sugar Ray Leonard in the 80’s and 90’s. But Ray didn’t want to fight me. Ray was like, man, I’m not looking for that kind of fight. Iran, you hit too hard. He told me that at Top Rank Gym.”

BI: Gil Clancy once said about you that he never saw a fighter achieve so much with so little natural talent. What do you think of that comment?

Iran Barkley: “That was a good comment because that’s true [laughs]. I never got all the recognition that I deserved to get for beating everybody. He said that I didn’t have much talent but I do got talent. I even got things that Gil Clancy never knew that I had [laughs]. You know what I’m saying. He can’t really say that because I’ve been trained by the best (Connie Bryant, Davey Vazquez, Bobby Miles). I fought the best.”

Heres a fact for you and everyone: you ALWAYS make the excuse that Leonard lost to Duran because Ray didnt fight his fight. That is an undisputed fact. In your post we are discussing here you wrote Ray beat Duran when he fought his fight. That is your usual excuse.

Absolutely nothing you wrote here changes the fact that you ALMOST ALWAYS make the excuse that Duran beat Leonard because Ray didnt fight his fight. Are you denying that? A simple yes or no will suffice.

and I believe it. Ray completely turned it around.. Almost as much as Azumah Nelson did with Fenech in 1991 or whatever year that was. 1992? If we compare the first round in the first Duran/Leonard to the first round of the second fight, the variable which changes is Ray's movement.
