Is Duran's victory over Barkley any more impressive than Gavilan's over Lausse?

    Let me ask you guys, when you're tyring to quantify a fighter's greatness, does his achievments at a ripe old age mean more to you than if he were younger? What I mean is, it's inarguable that Duran's victory at this age is incredible, but does it make him literally "greater" than if he had beaten Barkley at 27, still an extraordinar achievemen given the difference in size?

    Yes, Lausse was better than Barkley.

    Better win? Duran was probably more past it.

    Ok,could an 83 duran beat the lausse gavilan beat?

    Well it's obviously very difficult to know. Lausse went on a great run after losing to KG though, so perhaps that was a big learning fight for him - it's perhaps unfair to make a judgemen based upo what appears upon film later on, but on balace, I would pick Bakley.

    I've always thought stylistically Duran fighting the way he did against Hagler would be a nightmare for Toney.Not because he's awesome or anything, but because of James' own flaws.

    Iran Barkley had flaws, but, the sum ***** was well trained and schooled for Duran in 1989............... Infact, Gil Clancy stated that he thought Barkley looked very good and disciplined in his fight against Duran in 1989......... I AGREE with Gil............ Barkley fought the most technical fight of his career against Duran in 1989 up in Jersey....... However, it was not enough........

    NOTE:

    Barkley also looked huge next to the obviously smaller 156 3/4 pound Roberto Duran.....

    I love to review "Duran-Barkley" from '89 on a periodic basis...........
