Is Eddie Hearn good for British Boxing?

Hearn has generally been good for the Uk scene.

I admire his willingness to do interviews/ answer questions on twitter plus his fighters generally seem very happy and at ease with him. Seems to work very hard and is very supportive of his fighters...etc

Things that get on my tits... talking rubbish about making his fights like Quigg vs LSC and bringing over Shawn Porter etc which is complete bollox....
'Stealing' over promoters fighters especially the ones who are world champions/established as there former promoters have all put the work/finance in...claiming your going to put on 'monsta' under cards...prizefighter etc I'm waffling now but as I said overall happy with him - as long as BN stays strong we've got a excellent balance in British boxing IMO

He is a really good promoter, made boxing more popular and accessible in UK. Take Carl Froch in Britain he is a Mega Star, before he went with Hearn he was on dodgy channels and except big boxing fans and people from Nottingham no one know who he was. Hearn treats fighters right puts on loads of good 50/50s, and yes lots of fights that are not 50/50s, but he aint going to put prospects in 50/50 fights whilst there learning trade, nor is he going to put bigger names in 50/50 fights when fighting warm up fights to keep them ticking over. And I agree with him on all that

 

For boxing fans the more promoters that get TV coverage of their fights the better.Hearn jr seems to have the best interests of the sport at heart,and presumably he can only work within the budget Sky gives him. I would imagine that one of the reasons that FW set up BN was to be more the master of his own destinyBBC and ITV have done very little to support the sport for many years now.

 

Show's he puts on are good always look forward to them more then boxnation but both are top in my opinion

Stealing other fighters is not really true though. Fighters go to matchroom by choice and by free will. Would you rather fighters be forced to stay with original Promoter?

 

Also matchroom are the only uk promoter than can massively boost their profile these days

 

Hearn is so successful because of the Sky contract, his dad's help to a certain degree and something which will become more apparent in the next couple of years, the way the British amateur system was overhauled about 5-6 years ago. He will be reaping the rewards of that for years to come, Joshua, Smith, Campbell to name a few. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, it's pretty natural. I do think that he is making boxing more accessible to a wider audience through the medium of Sky, and that will only improve as the great crop of youngsters we have currently come through. Sky have also lost the Champions League contract after next season which opens up a HUGE amount of revenue, I think Eddie can capitalise on that.

As well as that he has orchestrated what could be the biggest fight in British boxing history. It did fall into his lap to a certain degree but he has got it over the finish line and done a good job promoting it. The way is handling Joshua and Campbell is risky, headlining their own cards etc, but in the case of Joshua expecially if they can produce the goods they could be mega stars.

He does get some stick for signing everyone's fighters but at the end of the day a fighter wants to fight and has to secure their futures. I remember when Quigg signed for Matchroom I said to a friend he would have a fight in 2 weeks. Later that day he was added on to a card coming up in two weeks, albeit with a journeyman. Not long after that he had secured the shot at the vacant WBA regular (toilet paper) belt. Point been, he has the clout to keep fighters busy and get them to title shots, although I'd like to see tougher matchmaking some of the time.

As you can tell, I am a big fan of Eddie Hearn and at about 35 he is doing incredibly well and is going to be around for a long time. He has obviously learned a lot of his Dad and is a fight fan, whether this ever gets put before business is a different story. He has come a long way in a short time and with Sky's backing and the improving quality of talent of the youngsters coming through, I think his stable will get better and better. At the end of the day, it is always going to be hard competing with GBP, TR etc, but with the backing the of UK fans, the best and most diehard fans in the world, there really isn't another promoter in the UK who I'd rather have at the helm. The Froch Groves fight is taking British boxing to the next level and I see big things on the horizon.

Depends on the contract doesn't it.

It isn't fair on promoters if they invest in a fighter, only for that fighter to f**k off when still under contract.

If that's allowed... then why bother investing in fighters in the first place?

 

He pays fighters within 72 hours of the fight , you never hear of any snide non payment comments or legal battles from fighters

 

Yep,he generally makes good fights,its much better than Frank ******s protected Wbo fighters who can sometimes win a world title without beating a world class fighter..
