Is Elmer Ray' winning streak in 1943-47 the longest in HW history? 50-0 (44 KO)

I don't count JJW's losses against him, I only count wins.

 

And they way were wrong as Savold would finish the decade with a RING #2 rating and the British Championship.

And this Eagler article speaks highly of Savold before the bout. Saying he offers a severe test to Ray, and an impressive win would move him up as a contender..which it did. He became RING #2 after this impressive knockout.

Savold is the guy Neilsen would have picked for a gimme and than got his ass handed to him. Wood**** was a hype job but he could hit hard, Savold walked through him with that sledgehammer jab and made him quit.

No, beating Walcott was the high point. I was speaking of Savold as a stand out knockout that showed he was for real.

Neilsen doesn't have any wins like that, nor a a win over a top contender in his prime like Walcott.

 

What? That article doesn't speak highly of Savold.

It says Savold has had a checkered career. It says he was a 3 1/2 to 1 underdog. It says if he goes the way of Ray's other opponents (which he did), he'll be on the "descend" (which he was). It says he's expected to get knocked out - which he did.

It speaks highly of Elmer Ray.

But I don't know where on earth you think this speaks highly of Savold.

As for Savold getting ranked at the end of the decade, Savold was brought in to be a knock-over opponent for Bruce Wood**** so Wood**** could win a portion of the heavyweight title. And Savold outpointed him in an upset. That's how he got "ranked." That's like trying to pump up Carlos Maussa because he was brought in to give Vivian Harris an easy title fight and Harris was so bad he lost.

Savold was so bad at the end of the decade, ancient Joe Louis, using basically just a left hand, destroyed him in Savold's next fight after Wood****.

Savold was on the slide and was brought in to lose to Ray by knockout - and that's exactly what happened.

I don't know why you're trying to pump up this win. It turned out exactly how it was supposed to turn out - just like nearly all of Nielsen's fights against name guys on the decline did.

 

Louis hit Savold with plenty of flush right hands, watch the fight.

 

He is described as a "serious test" with a knack for upsets.

Wrong.

They were the same age. And good for Louis. First man since Ray to knock him out, and the last.
