    I'm with this

A lot of the 70s contenders weren't that special and that whole era gets romanticized

Hmm? To the deluded, everyone else seems delusional......Wardly couldn't beat Jerry Quarry on his best day

If I'm not mistaken, was he not being dominated in his last 2 fights by both opponents when he came up with a game changer (credit to him) in one fight and then did show fortitude but was also blessed with an inept ref in the other?

That means he's competitive (top 10) in the murderer's row that was the 70s?

This is exactly right, he's around the Mariusz Wach ,David Allen , Frazier Clarke level.

Every time. Recency bias strikes again. If Wardley's chin cracks like Joyce's did...

    Correct.

Joe Joyce has the best chin since George Chuvalo. Some were saying ever. There were multiple threads here claiming that, so it must be true.

I keep seeing people say he’s durable, but name me a big puncher he’s been in with, yeah he takes punishment but from non punchers so far.

Its completely pointless comparing eras because we will just never know but when a fighter can hit as hard as wardley and has a solid chin he cant be written off.

Joyce would be competitive in the 70s too. Would crack the top 10, be capable of an upset here and there. Be the best? Absolutely not. But he’d be up there.

that’s all anybody is saying about Wardley. He’s a big strong athletic guy with Shavers/Foreman level power and every intangible. How would he NOT be competitive?
