Beating Winky Wright by a disputed decision is Ferando's career highlight.I don't quite subscribe to the notion that beating Ike Quartey is a automatic ticket to the hall of fame. Fernandos prime and list of accomplishments was too short. I'd vote, no, Fernando doesn't get in.
There is no way that Quartey will make the hall of fame. Vargas didn't just lose to Trinidad, Mosely, and De La Hoya, he was brutally KO'd by all three. His popularity and the fact that he was the youngest 154 pound champion ever will be taken into consideration.
I don't think he gets in but he is one of those either just in or just out scenarios. Winky was a very good win while Quartey was a good win. Campas and Marquez help but only a little. I just don't see that as enough to get in. He had a short peak and too few notable wins while losing his four biggest fights.
In the nicest way possible"Hell No..he didnt beat any great fighters, his undefeated record was ended by winky wright who was a nobody at that time...In all his big Fights he got knocked out,Vargas was always a bit overrated,Come on man this should even be a question!!! If Fernando Vargas gets in the hall of fame then Ricardo Mayorga might as well get into the hall of fame, hell lets add Peter Manfredo too while we at it SMH
i give the guy mad respect, a true warrior but he lost all his truly big fights, shaved a close one over winky, and used roids and still got destroyed by oscar... so no
Good post and i agree with the contents. Vargas was exciting and thrilling for boxing and did make the big fights. But, he suffers for longevity and loses his biggest fights. I generally give fighters more credit for fighting and losing against top opposition then fighting nobodies for most of their career. This is a very close decision in my estimation, had he barely lost to the above mentioned I would say yes. I am really on the fence on this one.
He is the youngest jr middle champ in history win over winky win over ike a top 10 P4P fighter in 1999 HOF fights with Trinidad and Hoya But i just dont know.... im probably vargas's biggest fan and i think its on the fence, what hurts him isnt that he lost to tito, hoya and mosley, as they are great great fighters.... but that he doesnt have more significant wins in his career imo, and being on top for such a short time. its a tough call
Don't think he deserves it.Don't think Norris deserved it either.Victory over Wright was a big WHAT?A victory over Ike Quartey(good fighter nonetheless) warrants it.Was ko'd in his biggest fights.Good and tough, but not HOF.
So just to clarify - the question is will, not should? I know it says will, but ESB has a full-on bell curve...it's best if you dumb down anything that might include nuance with full clarification. :good
