No, I don't think so. I see multiple factors and there are surely many more.

    First:
The PPV model. It limits the audience of the top fighters to select few who are willing to pay. Less free fights on TV means limiting the audience which means limiting the mainstream popularity.

    Second:
Many american based top fighters are quite the divas fighting once a year in safe matchups. Soft touches are not a problem per se but if you rarely fight it is quite annoying.

    Third:
More and more shady lawyer types entering the sport, creating there own weight classes, creating fines for breaking their own weight limits etc. this results in potential fights taking forever to be negotiated

Just say you dislike Mayweather and be done with it. No need to couch it in faulty ****ysis.

What's faulty about saying Mayweather is boring as **** to watch and no one really likes watching him. And now there's an army of dull ass Floydbot Clones coming along to bore the hell out of people for the next 15 years.

If you don't see the inherent conflict with this statement in reference to, come May 3rd, a guy who will have been part of the 3 highest grossing fights and most watched PPVs in boxing history, then there is really nothing left to say. Even wrapping it in the old and silly 'they hope he gets Koed' canard does not justify your position.

All you've done here is immerse your dislike of Mayweather and his 'style' into an '****ysis' of 'what casuals like', when the facts on the ground say the exact opposite.

Because Mexicans wanted to see De La Hoya and Canelo beat his ass. It's that simple not because they like him. And find him entertaining.

    Same goes for Manny.

Most people root for the Bull not the Matador.:deal

For the sake of argument, let's accept what you just said as true (it isn't).

According to you, fans who previously had limited interest in seeing DLH (based on previous 'Not a 'real' Mexican' critiques and never having achieved those types of PPV numbers before) and Canelo (based on his mediocre Lara and Angulo numbers) went out and SPECIALLY bought those PPVs because Mayweather was involved.

Do you know what we call fans who have more interest buying in a specific boxing match (for whatever reason) than they do for the sport as a whole?

Basically, all you've just reiterated is that having Mayweather on the marquee brought out CASUAL MEXICAN FANS.

This would appear to run counter to your point that his 'style' keeps fans away. This is especially silly when you consider those same 'Mexican casuals' saw his 'boring style' against DLH in '07, only to come back 6 years later and pay even MORE money to watch him fight a guy with even less of a chance of winning in Canelo.

Don't you see why your ****ysis is off?

Again, this too is not true. But if they do, much like Mayweather haters, they eventually get their feelings crushed as the bull continually gets embarrassed with misguided attacks and eventually gets stabbed to death.

Boxing is popular in America. People will sit down and watch a fight here. It's just that we don't have that many boxers who became celebrities like we used to.

Europe doesn't have boxers who are celebrities. Wlad and Froch might be the two most popular fighters from England to the Philippines. Kov is coming along, but he doesn't have star power. Nobody knows GG either.
