I don't think his problem is the love for the sport. I think he loves it because he is a gym rat always in shape and so on. He just doesn't have that desire to prove that he is the best by choosing the hardest opponents. But this is his decision I don't blame him as long as he doesn't speak BS about being the GOAT because he hasn't proved it!!!!

Every professional fights for money period. In the amateur days we fight for free. Both guys are fighting for money as professional. They are also both suprem fighters, athlete's and professional who love their profession and have mastered it. So they are fight for honour, pride and money which are not incompatible.

It's obvious he's only doing it to settle his debt with the IRS...after this fight is over he will jump back into retirement claiming that he has nothing left to prove and will avoid yet another fighter with his retirement speech...

    this is getting old, Floyd!!

Chavez Sr might have to climb his old ass back in the ring to get the IRS off his back.

He's made it pretty obvious, for the money. But I hope he proves me wrong by fighting Pac, Mosley, Cotto, or Williams.

I agree, however I think the better question would be:

If he didn't have financial trouble with the IRS/banks would he have still come back?

it's simple, yo don't pay attention to what floyd says, whatever he says is self serving.

he retired to duck the Margarito-Cotto winner. He came back because he never wanted to leave but he had to leave to duck getting knocked out.

floyd is fighting now for why he has fo tthe last 5 yrs - to handpick the safest opponents for the most money and the most glory, and to preserve the unbeaten record, and avoid getting knocked out by Cotto, Margarito, Mosley and Pacquiao.

all else he says is smoke and mirrors. simple as that.

Exactly, let's not be naive. You all get up and go to work every day, and even if you love your job, bust your ass, and put in the extra time, you are all motivated by money. Why should it be any different for athletes?? These guys go through grueling training camps, and regardless of opponent, risk their health and even their lives in the ring. So love for the sport or no love for the sport, the biggest motivation is money. Ask Oscar De La Hoya. Once you've reached a certain place in the sport, the only thing left to do is position yourself for gigantic paydays.

All that being said, there's no way Floyd Mayweather doesn't love the sport of boxing - that's all he has known for his entire life, it has made him famous, and handsomely rich. Plus he's brilliant at it.
