Floyd: "I'm not saying that I'm the only star in boxing. There are other stars in boxing. But there's only one mega-superstar." Do you agree with Floyd? Vote in the poll...
I don't think there are any mega-superstars left in boxing. Paquaio is popular but is he a household name who everyone recognises on the street like Tyson, Ali, Leonard, Dempsey, De La Hoya and so on were in their eras'? I don't think so. Neither is Mayweather, his comeback fight after nearly 2 years isn't even generating that much interest. Remember they hype when Tyson was coming out of prison? I do and I was 10 at the time.
hmm says . . . you wait come early October at the "The Greatest of All-Time" convention in Vegas where all the big named boxing legends, stars, and greats will come together for 3 days for the unveiling of the greatest boxers for each of the 8 original weight classes and the newly crowned number 1 boxer of all-time. There will be new ATG lists that has been created in the span of 2 years since ESPN's 2007 crap list. Maybe Sugar Ray Robinson won't be ranked number 1 anymore. but as of now, PBF is one of the top boxers of our generation but not the only mega-star.
Both Mayweather and Pac are far from being considered MEGA stars in the sport. Oscar numbers show you what a Mega Star is. However out of the whole lot of boxers currently active, both these guys are the most popular names in the sport. But to be a mega star you have to be on the A side of an equation and do over a million buys even when you are fighting a B to C level boxers.
Floyd claiming he's the only mega-superstar in boxing is pure BS... Just like all the other BS that comes from his big mouth...:rofl .
Good call dude,, its all completely relative to the general popularity of the sport itself. If any of my mates ask me about the boxing scene they still generally know nothing or very little on the big superstars. The english bystander probably knows about hatton, khan and calzaghe - but not even pac/floyd/hop etc.. I doubt if the same guys didnt know about the Alis, Fraziers, SRLs, Tyson etc.. Sad but I'd have to agree theres no mega-superstars like back then- just look at ticket sales for the supposedly only mega-superstars comeback:bart . I'd bet hopkins-jones 2 would make more money
typical american attitude, not a megastar if not an america one! does that mean ronaldo isn't a megastar. my ****ing ass. if a whole country stops to watch a fighter or thousands and thousands of fans go abroad to watch a fighter they are a megastar wether the average american knows them or not!
mayweather has never been a mega-superstar. he can't even sell tickets when he's not fighting ODLH or Hatton. Pac is a far bigger star than mayweather worldwide.
How can that fraud claim to be a mega superstar ??? ROFL. He couldnt draw flies if he was covered in horse manure in 100 deg heat Mayweather has the boxing skills of a star but unfortunately he has the heart of the Cowardly Lion & the cajones of a gnat
Floyde and Pac are Stars on the over all world level...the U.S. is just not as into it as other countries are
