granted he is a great fighter but he has not faced the top contenders in his division right now! wereas leonard stepped in the ring with all the big name challengers! making him the atg.

    No, Jason Abelson was serious.

He's the leading boxing commentator on The Fight Network here in Canada (now also broadcasting in Britain) and a big Mayweather fan.

But I agree, it seems absurd for him to write that Floyd is "easily" better than boxers like Leonard or prime Jones.

Floyd is not even "easily" the best fighter right now. He's up there for sure, but people can make very good arguements as to his refusal to fight the best etc. Some toher active fighters are really good too and can compete for that claim.

So anyone who says he is "easily" the best of the last 30 years must not have watched much boxing.
Also, he's "easily not" the best of the last 30 years. Names like Jones, Leonard, Hagler, Whitaker, Hopkins, Lewis, Duran, Hearns... heck, you could even make the arguement that Oscar DLH was a better fighter. He certainly fought many more tough challenges.

I don't know why folks continue to ask these sort of questions about Floyd in here, don't you know this place wreaks of Floyd haters?, rational thinking is a "no-no" as far as Floyd is concerned, in my opinion interms of boxing talent there's no-one in the last 30 years who is better than Floyd, say what you like about his personality but he's an A+ when he puts them gloves on.

Defensively yes, and remember i said "no-one is better" not that he's miles ahead of everyone, can you tell me any weakness that Floyd has in his game that puts Roy abouv Floyd?.

If Roy was a little guy he would own Floyd hardcore in their primes. Roy is the freak of boxing and I doubt we'll see another one.

He's one of the group of six who had the most natural talent and who boxed in my lifetime (SRR, Ali,SRL, SweetPea, RJJ and FMJ. All six are black Americans, for those who have accused me of Euro-bias).

But he's not only not easily the best, he's not the best at all.

Of that group, SRL, Sweetpea and RJJ were all at their best (as was Floyd) in the past 30 years and I believe all three were better than Floyd.

In addition, several other boxers come to mind as being better, if less naturally talented. I believe Duran was, all things considered, quite a lot better.

Floyd is the best out there TODAY.

But in the last 30 years, he's lucky to make the top ten!

Jason Abelson is a hype machine and not very good at his job. His article just states that Mayweather is the best in the last 30 yrs. He doesn't try to justify this. If he actually tried to make a case for this I would think he was a complete moron. That he doesn’t only means that he's a hack that couldn't find a better way to create intrigue in his article. And I don't give his comment any more thought then that.
