    *****S VS. *******S Great Debate
    say all you want,
Some will like this, but some will hate it
Take Note: Read slowly, coz it contains a lot of great facts

At one time Floyd Mayweather (41-0, 25 KO’s) seemed to be universally considered by boxing fans, writers, and historians as a great fighter. But is he really a fighter who will go down in boxing history as one of the greatest fighters of all time? Of course “Money” is proclaimed by himself to be the greatest fighter of all time. Forget about Sugar Ray Robinson, Harry Greb, Benny Leonard, Archie Moore , Joe Louis, Roberto Duran, Muhammad Ali and numerous other great fighters who fought everybody out there over long periods of time.

These great fighters fought the best competition available because they wanted to be recognized by boxing fans and their peers as the best fighters of their generation. They wanted to prove to the world how good they were. No phony excuses or condemnations of their opponents in an effort to avoid fighting them. No rules that they imposed on another fighter so that a match would not be made which all boxing fans wanted to see. Most importantly they did not make baseless charges without proof or evidence to support their claim that a potential opponent was doing something illegal to make him a better fighter. That is not the measure of a great fighter and in some cases comes back to haunt the person making the claim.

When the great Joe Louis took the heavyweight title in 1937 from the “Cinderella Man” Jimmy Braddock with an eight round KO he said that he would be a fighting champion. He made good on his word. In 1941 he defended his title seven times and wound up defending his crown a record twenty five times. Sugar Ray Robinson lost his forty third fight to Jake Lamotta in 1943 and did not lose again for another eight years, fighting as often as sixteen times a year. The “Old Mongoose” Archie Moore had several times as many KO’s as Mayweather has had fights.

Can any boxing fan conceive of Roberto Duran making all sorts of silly excuses so that he would not have to fight another fighter who was perceived to be on his level?

hard to believe his popularity is declining when every tom dick and jane keep talking about him and bringing him up and he isnt even fighting.

everywhere he goes he's acknowledged even if it's in a negative way or positive way....it doesnt matter recognition is rocognition.

I still think you'd be hard pressed not to include the man somewhere in your ATG list.

This forum is starting to become ****. If Floyd isn't great, then Manny shouldn't be an underdog against him

he is. theres no question about it but he was not able to prove it at a higher weight. he was superhuman at lightweight becomes human at welter.

Hard to say as we dont know how long he used Xylocaine. he was a decent lightweight and a lesser welter. he does not break my top 100 ATG list.

Manny Pacquiao needs to have asterisks next to his titles record just like Barry Bonds has on his homeruns

sure his skills are ATG, but his resume isnt. All the ATGs he fought were old. Name one ATG or even very very good boxer he fought below 34, heck even below 32-30?

Yes, Floyd is great. He just isn't as great as Pac and he knows it. The thought of fighting Pac scares the **** out of him.

A gifted individual who's all business once inside the ropes. Its a shame many trash his career because of his percieved fear of Pacquiao. Boxing is a very different animal these days, the superstars can pick and chose who they fight because of the astronomical sums on offer. Its not the 1st and won't be the last. Lewis/Bowe?

Floyd is in the process of self destructing. One has to feel sorry for him. It is not going to be a pretty sight to watch his downward spiral over the next few years.
If floyd wants to come anywhere close to being considered on Pacman level He needs to:
    Fight Pacquaio
    Fight Ortiz
    Fight Cotto
If he fights these three guys and win at least two of the three or all three fights, he may be considered the best, but if not he will never be the best.
He’s definitely a great fighter, but he missed too many oppurtunities to be considered the best because he played it safe and didn’t challenge the best. So he will go down is history as a superb boxer and defensive mastermind, but he’ll never be considered the best of all time.

u cant deny his brilliance in the ring. the kid was born with gloves on. hes a tremendous talent that can only be appreciated when he fights. one of the highest IQ's i have ever seen in the ring. the guy is a master at adapting and exposing one's weaknesses. he makes a great fighter look ordinary. he is able to box or brawl when needed. not many fighters can do both like he can. he is the last of the great fighters like roy jones who dominated when he was in his prime.
