Is Floyd Mayweather really a great fighter?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by hofbrau, Jun 3, 2011.

  1. I can picture him 60 years old without ever haven fought again and still going on about Pacquiao and how he would have fought him and won if he took the test and he was never scared.
I don't think i'm being dramatic when I say not taking this fight could really have a detrimental effect on the rest of his life as he will always be known for not fighting. Two incredible fighters (possible ATG's) in the same weight category at the same time and not fighting. It's disgusting. **** you Mayweather.

You have to be lucky to face a peer/atg in their prime. If you beat a bunch of good fighters though like pac and Floyd have, you're great. Of course Floyd is great. Could he have become a legend, yes...but he's not. Imo pac has not faced an atg in their prime either. He did face a tough mab who was a bit past it even though his age says otherwise, but he started at 15, and a tough em who also beat him, who pac beat two times. Both pac and Floyd are great fighters. Is Floyd truly scared of pac? No. Pacs problem through no fault of his own is having Arum as his promoter. Floyd despises the man.

    Total & absolute SHITE:deal

It was HATTON that sold the PPv's in Europe & it was over a MILLION+, **** all to do with mayweather who could'nt attract flies to ****.

Pacman had the pubs all over the UK rammed packed when he fought HATTON & it was also a massive seller.

It was DLH that was the PPv attraction & also MARQUEZ + GATTI was the draw also.

Mayweather could'nt sell 3K tickets for his fight with Coralles or Castillo as they had to comp the tickets to all the casino drunks to fill the seats.

MAYWEATHER is now just a curiosity freak show that sells:deal It was his opponants that are the PPv draw.

Floyd's only popular in the UK because all the HATTON cry babies have swapped alliegence as they think Hatton was hard done by with the Ref & that he lasted 10 rounds. But PACQUIAO in the UK is the boggieman who utterly EXPOSED & DESTROYED their hero:lol:

Over 400+ from the UK flew over to see Pacquiao/Cotto & Pacquiao/Mosley, you'd never get that amount of Brits flying 11K round trip for MAYWEATHER in a million years.:bbb

The PPv figures are ****-all to do with MAYWEATHER being the draw:smoke

Are you serious about this post. To think Floyd does not have any drawing power is pure unadulterated ignorance. It takes two to sell millions of ppvs...and Floyd however hated contributes to ppv sales.

I always thought that it was Floyds defense and willingness to never lose or quit in a fight that made him great. Now I see, its beating women and security guards up that keeps Floyds skills up to par to stay undefeated. Gotcha.

You can have an opinion, just know that your opinion is biased. If you want to have a fair opinion you have to evaluate all aspects of the equation. You can't just put all your focus on one side. You claim Mayweather fought 2 guys that jumped up in weight. But don't give Mayweather any credit for jumping up in weight and defeating belt holders himself. Double standards and biased.

You don't take into account that Mayweather fought Hatton at 147 because he went up to 150 vs Hoya and its not healthy to force your body to try and clime to middle weight then the next fight force your body to suck down to Jr welter from fight to fight. You also don't take into account that Hatton easily could have gotten the fight at 140 as would have Cotto when Mayweather was at 140. But they didn't want the fight at that time. You also don't take into account that Mayweather challenged Mosley in 99 and 06 but Mosley decided he had other plans. You don't take into account that Judah was an elite athlete, southpaw with power. Stylistically which they claim make fights was a problem for Mayweather and he still succeed while jumping up in weight earlier then needed, Regular fighters don't do stuff like that. Or take into account that he gave up around 15pds to Baldomir and 15pds to Hoya in back to back fights in title fights and won. Regular fighters don't do stuff like that.

For regular fighters the stylistic problems or weight differences become excuses. For Mayweather they aren't even considered achievements.

You say who really knows when evaluating Mayweather but you can only name Pac who you consider great to accomplish what Mayweather has accomplished? So how does that work?
