Is Floyd Mayweather still relevant to boxing fans at all? I still hear some fans saying he can beat Crawford!
He's not a factor in any division as a fighter but you don't become irrelevant to boxing as a whole because you retire.
Same with JCC. There are still some threads here and there discussing who he would beat in this era. And he’s been retired for years! Floyd will be relevant for a while...
Relevance in Boxing ? He's retired so not relevant any longer. Relevance in Circus Shamming ? Yes, that's all he's doing now...
His only relevance to boxing is the legacy he left behind. Otherwise he's pretty much a non-factor now.
As far as fighting again definitely not. But considering his popularity and there’s no one that has taken his place, yes unfortunately he still is
I think he is still highly relevant for a number of reasons. His era is still fresh in our minds as his two biggest pay per view successes were in 2015 and 2017. Two fighters he beat convincingly, Canelo and Pacquiao, are: world champions of credible sanctioning bodies; arguably top 10 pound for pound; and, arguably the biggest two pay per view sellers if you exclude Mayweather. Given that he has come back from retirement multiple times already most people doubt he is gone for good this time. If he comes back against a credible or popular opponent his pay per view buys will almost certainly beat anything since the McGregor fight by a significant margin. Mayweather has not been replaced since he retired so he can continue from where he left off. He is arguably the greatest pound for pound boxer since the time of the Hagler Leonard fight.
