My unbiased opinion (I am a Mayweather fan): Inside the ring I think May might very well be one of the best technical wizards ever. THE best ever? He is lacking those signature fights that raise him up to the highest pedestial. Outside the ring - I will not even go there.
Only if you're Leonard Ellerbe or a Leonard Ellerbe wannabe. If you're none of that you know hes not the best ever and hes not even close to being the best ever, unless we are talking about ducking fighters then hes TBE.
I'm not saying that he's better then SRR or SRL. I'm just saying he's in the top 20 fighters that has ever lived. Well my point is that whenever Mayweather laces up his gloves he'll be recognized for his achivments in the ring. It's always like this, whenever a fighters active and in the midsts of his career people always tend to downplay them. But as soon as they are retirered then people acually can sit back and compare. The same could be said for Lewis, I don't really belive that many people think as highly of him as they do now. So I guess in like 10 years or so we'll all be saying that he's easily in the top 20 like i'm doing now.
No he's not the best ever, but he's probably the best fighter of the last 25+ years,--dating back to guys like Chavez Sr, Hagler, Duran and SRL. People can whine and complain all they want about FLoyd and his opposition, but the guy has been a P4P stalwart since 1998, we're talking about a 16 year run where the guy has been universally recognized as a top 10 P4P fighter. I can't think of any other fighters that have had such a lengthy, dominant run. It's crazy to think the guy is currently the #1 P4P fighter in the world right now at 37 years old. He's beaten close to 10 HOF'ers already, has over 20 wins in title fights and has become lineal champion in 4 out of the 5 weightclasses he's fought in. He's an ATG, probably somewhere in the 20-25 range sounds about right. If he takes on Pacman, the winner of Cotto-martinez, maybe takes on another MW afterwards and than for his swan song ends up fighting the best 147 or 154 lber in the world at that time, than I'll have no problem saying he's somewhere in the top 10-20 of all time. You'd have to give him strong consideration for being ranked that highly if he can beat the other ATG in his generation in Pacman and if he won the lineal MW championship. That would make him a lineal champ at 3 true weightclasses- LW, WW and MW.
In my honest opinion the way i see it is of this era Floyd is the most talented and gifted Manny is the greater because he has far more top level wins.
He's a great fighter, but no one with the slightest bit of objectivity or knowledge of the sport's history would call him the best or greatest ever. There's been numerous great fighters throughout history.
He isnt even the best of his era! Pacquiao, Armstrong, Leonard, LaMotta and Robinson would mess Floyd up!
This claim with that cap on TBE is simply childish and he knows it. Incredible how a 37 year old still is so hungry for attention and specially outside the ring with all those cars, jet, jewelry and stupid things to blast out. Actually the whole family taking exception maybe to uncle Jeff can burn out an entire city block by tossing out a simple salad.
