Tbh mate odds on you're right, but still to this day it baffles my mind that LaMotta beat Robinson, watching them back they are worlds apart in skill, and had the wars between SRR and LaMotta not happened, if you'dve asked me who was more likely based on film to beat SRR out of LaMotta and Burley, I'm fairly confident I'd pick Burley.
Well, what's more baffling is the fact that Robinson could stop him. Robinson's power is horrendously underrated IMO, it's one of his greatest assets. Actually, LaMotta was robbed in one of the last few Robinson fights. Not many people mention it, but at the time it was a pretty big deal. God I say that like I was there lol. I think the reason Jake posed so much of a threat for SRR is that he was so bullish and much bigger physically. Robi was never very strong. Fullmer, Basilio and Turpin exploited it too. I think Burley would beat LaMotta. LaMotta was at his best when someone stood in front of him. Lytell, Dauthuille, Basora, Robinson and Marshall all out-boxed him and won via that tactic. Burley could do it IMO.
From what I've seen they were all pretty close, pretty sure there's 1 or 2 of their fights I haven't seen though. Yeah had legit power, never really looked like he was out to KO anyone though, which make the amount of KOs he had even more crazy. Oh no doubt, but SRR beat other strong pressure fighters, he beat (or drew with) other strong pressure fighters who had beaten LaMotta, Burley would've been a pretty unique challenge for SRR. By my eye Turpin had more similarities with Burley than he did with LaMotta. Haven't watched it in a while but from memory I thought Turpin spent a lot of time on the back foot being awkward, leaping in and out, but again brain like a sieve lol. 100% bro, LaMotta would probably pick up 1 or 2 if they fought as many times as he fought Robinson did though. One off night and he'll make you pay lol.
Well, you've only seen one of them. That's all that's recorded. Yeah, his record is nuts. The fact that he KOed so many durable middleweights whilst not even being a natural welterweight, weight wise. Turpin was a pressure fighter in the first fight, and walking onto Robinson's combinations. I think he's actually a pretty good blend of Robinson and Fullmer. Yeah, LaMotta would probably get a win in one off vs anyone in history. Well, maybe except Monzon.
Well there we go then . Couldve sworn I've seen more but I'll take your word for it, you're like a computer with this **** lol. Couldn't agree more pal, one of many reasons people still talk about him so much all these years later. I do still wonder sometimes wonder how many losses he would've been judged to have by the hardcore fans, if all of his fights were available. Would've love to have seen the Servo and Basora fights, some better footage vs Georgie Abrams would be nice too. I'll have to watch it again sometime, because I'm not picturing like that at all, but I trust your word on it. Jesus, LaMotta vs Monzon would be painful to watch. Monzon would be doing plastic surgery on Jakes face.
It's great lol People normally just accept that I know loads more than them about boxing. So if I want, I can just make **** up.
That's straight up Machiavellian bro. I'm keeping an eye out, trust no one. Maybe I really did see more than one Robinson LaMotta fight
Arguably pound for pound the best ever. There was a reason he and SRR avoided each other but fought everyone else. Check Burley’s record then come back.
