Floyd never fought the likes of a chavez, Duran, haglar, hearns. Frankly he lost against jose Luis Castillo in the first match. The fact that he won the second time does not change the fact that he actually saw himself in the need to slug it out the final rounds. His style can only be appreciated by a few people. I'll never feel compelled to see his fights now much less 1,2,3,4,5 years from now and I don't think that people would purchase any of his dvd fight not because of hate.
Nobody has to buy DVD's anymore. Youtube and digital TV streaming videos I haven't bought a DVD in 8 years. All of his fights are there and most of those have over 1 million views in multiple videos for example look up the Marquez fight. He is not underrated or overrated. He is the top star of his era. 10 years from now nobody will care. Another star comes along. Leonard stopped fighting in 1997 nobody cared. Hector Camacho never gets credit for the fight.
Mayweather and Pacquiao almost ruined boxing between PEDs, having zero class, and making a mockery of this sport. Like sucker punching a fighter, on a PPV ffs! Imagine is sucker punching became accepted in boxing, PEDs are now more common, I blame Pacquiao in large part for that, and I blame Mayweather in large part for boxing being tolerant of the amateur style... This is the pros, when Oscar did in the last 3 rounds what Floyd does for 12 he lost those rounds. Those 2 guys along with Arum and Haymon have been bad for boxing... Once the PPV numbers come out it will show how uninteresting boxing has become. Atleast boxing can save face thanks to throwback fighters like Canelo and a few others who take on all comers and come to fight.
I don't see how he is underrated. He's the biggest star in boxing right now despite a style that isn't overly exciting to the casuals. He regarded as the possibly the best fighter of his generation with only Pac being as highly regarded. While it's true he perhaps lacks the resume of some of the past greats and gets criticised for this, he like many before him will be appreciated more after he retires.
He's definitely overrated by casuals, I was on a non boxing forum yesterday and some fool was saying how many people now think Mayweather is the greatest boxer ever and had surpassed Ali as a sporting icon. atsch
Both really if you think he's TBE your overrating him a bit, if you think he's never fought anyone and cherry picked his whole career your severely under rating him.
yea because robinson was fighting guys like fullmer, basilio, turpin, lamotta, gavilan, armstrong, zivic etc.
jake lamotta>>anyone floyd beat carmen basilio>>anyone floyd beat kid gavilan>>anyone floyd beat henry armstrong top 3 ATG of all time.. who's next?
both basilio and lamotta would be top middleweights in this era. gavilan would be a top welter, same goes for armstrong from feather to middle. if you think a win over someone who went 150-21 is equivalent to a win over someone who went 40-5 then you should clearly watch a different sport. robinson went 173-19 and went on a 91 fight undefeated streak. that's what you call great. he did duck burley though, another guy who'd be a top middle if he fought in this era.. mosley is barely even an all time great. marquez, dela hoya and pacquiao are the only ones who are solidified and even those names can't even be compared to the likes of a gavilan. floyd lost to castillo, and diego corrales isn't an ATG, neither is genaro hernandez.
If you avoid your mando of two years like the plague something isn't adding up. Psst..Thurman has been Floyd's mando for over two years now
Floydette is overrated. He benefits greatly from cherrypicking opponents and avoiding fighters with certain styles, and from fighting in a weak era where bums like Berto, Ortiz or Baldomir can become ¨champs¨.
