most of Oscar' PPV were under a million. I saw something about it several years ago talking about Floyd will surpass oscar in two more years bc they were 2 million apart.... i think Floyd past that now.

    1. Isn't PPV more expensive now then back then? Also was the economy better back then than now? I also dont think more people have cable now i just think there are more ways to cable and more cable providers i dont think its some huge jump in numbers of households with cable but i certainly could be wrong...ontop of that Pac and Floyd are in the streaming age as well....LOTS of FREE STREAMS.

    2. Floyd and Pac ARE that big now though.(although Oscar certainly had his hand in both careers)

Pac and Floyd are the biggest non-heavyweight draws of all-time now. They have surpassed Oscar with their numbers.

Mayweather smashes Oscar in PPV average. Pacquiao has sold more PPV's (with one less event and a better average) than Oscar had at the same age.

Both guys share the record for most consecutive years with a PPV selling over a million with four. Oscar was never able to do it once in back to back years.

And consider these guys have been PPV stars only a few years, whereas Oscar was capable of attracting a million buys for almost an entire decade.

Oscar's longevity, holding the all-time number of buys, and the fact he was the clear A-side for the biggest fight of all-time is the only thing keeping him in the picture.

Pacquiao-Mayweather would no doubt have knocked Oscar into second place though, if that fight had happened, and they should each pass Oscar in all-time buys fighting a few more times.

floyd and pac wouldn't be there without oscar.

Plus in oscar's time, heavyweight boxing is still alive. You got a shitload of ppv draws and fighters from every weight class and have more talent compared to the crop today. So in 90s to early 2000 fanbase is divided, now casual fan base only know about pac or floyd

No..simply because Oscar was the headline of ALL of his big PPV's.

Floyd needed Oscar, Gatti, Hatton's star power for the big #'s.

He has come into his own against Mosley (who never achieved true stardom), Marquez (though you can argue that he drew in the Mexicans [though I'd say that mexican boxing fans would have bought the fight regardless]), Cotto, and Ortiz. Whatever ridiculous # a fight with Pacquiao will do has just as much to do with Manny....

Leonard was more popular than both for sure, and he was bigger than De La Hoya. Worldwide Leonard and Tyson were easily the most popular fighters after Ali

As to original question no. Different eras. Take into account access to ppv from 90s to now. Take into account Oscar did it with no internet, 24/7, or boxing forums. Take into account DLH is the table both Pac and Floyd stand on.

Both Pacquiao and Mayweather have surpassed Oscar in terms of global recognition, for obvious reasons. (internet, 24/7 etc)

In oscar era, Tyson and Lewis was still around drawing huge numbers in which heavyweights back then was alive until Tyson/Lewis retired. And there was no 24/7 for oscar fights before he met mayweather. Imagine 24/7 for Oscar vs Vargas? And imagine lewis and tyson both retired? I would bet all my money it would have break all ppv records.
