Floyd is considered a great for this generation. When you talk about All Time Greats though, you think of guys considered good or great fighters from other eras, who fought at his weight classes. I don't see Floyd beating hardly any of them.

If Floyd had trouble with Castillo, and Emanuel Augustus at lightweight, what would Chavez, Henry Armstrong, Roberto Duran, Shane Mosely, etc. do to him?

    147. He damn sure wouldn't beat Duran, Leonard, Hearns, or Robinson, Prime De La Hoya, Prime Mosely etc. If you look at who he faced at 147, and compare it to who De La Hoya faced at 147, Mayweather hasn't faced the equivalent of a prime Mosely x2, Trinidad, or Quartey. Furthermore when Oscar moved up, he fought a killer in Fernando Vargas. Floyd moved up and put a weight stipulation on a green Canelo Alvarez, which was a real ***** move.

Why not ? Floyd fought Judah who had just been beaten by Baldomir . Floyd damn nearly got his ass kicked too ROFL Floyd should have been DQ'd when his Daddy jumped in the ring to save his ass ROFLMAO

Cotto did NOT beat Margarito. He couldn't. Tony was blind in one eye from round 2 & still that cowardly prima donna couldn't beat him. It wasn't until Tony started a resurrgeance & was beating his chest that the crooked doc decided to stop the fight. To save QUitto from the embarrassment of surrendering on his knees AGAIN!!!
Manny Pacquaio destroyed Margarito's eye Cotto tried everything even lacing that eye several times. Did Tony Quit???
No Margarito is a MAN not a cowardly wussie

It has nothing to do with Floyd if you would read the post. And everything to do with people over-rating SRL. SRL was the media darling, the Gold Medalist with the nice image and golden smile. It's everything they wanted, and they pushed him. Anybody who was alive during the time and watching some boxing knows what I'm talking about.

And FYI because people like you seem to be confused - A "resume" is the "entire thing" not just a "few fights." SRL can have greater individual wins compared to another fighter, but his "overall resume" can still be considered weaker.

Yes, SRL has some great wins, but he also only has 36 victories, a short career, and was already getting his ass kicked by Terry Norris at 35. Longevity counts for something. Especially if you want to place SRL in the top 5-10 all-time as many people do.

I've never really broke down "a list," but 15 sounds much more reasonable. The lack of victories really hurts the man in regard to all time standing. Right off the bat you have to assume the top 5 is already "reserved" for guys like Armstrong, Greb, SRR, etc.

What would be nice, is putting together a "modern list" and have a particular year/era as the cutoff. There really is nothing a modern fighter can do to eclipse the records of the past.

Yea, he was a bad man, but his star burned out quickly as they say. And I am a SRL fan. That guy was all over the place when I was a kid, but as an adult, I recognize it for what it was. He was the media darling.

No actually he fought Baldomir for more than $8Million actually. Baldomir was the champion and a better fighter than Margarito who was basically a big hype job. In my experience elite fighters are not scared of other fighters. Why would Floyd be afraid of a cheat like Margarito.Floyd would have what Mosley did to him and what he did to Hatton. Margarito does not have the skills to hang with Floyd. Frankly Margarito is a disgrace to boxing and he should have been banned for life. I am glad Cotto got his revenge good and proper.

Cotto got his revenge????ROFLMAO:rofl The doc stopped that fight because Cotto was wilting & getting ready to Quit on his knees in surrender AGAIN!!!! It was stopped to save Cotto not Margarito. Cotto couldn't beat a one eyed Margarito, a one legged Yuri Foreman or a practically legless Sergio Martinez without the referees help.
Anyway big mouth show me one iota of proof Tony Margarito EVER cheated. You cannot its just built on the blatant lie of a worthless POS

Shutup, idiot. We've been over this already. He was caught plaster handed and justly suspended and outed as a greasy, cheating piece of ****. Plaster or no plaster, Mayweather would have completely schooled his slow, plodding ass, but I'm glad he didn't give that scumbag the payday. :p

He was RAILROADED!!! He was banned on a BLATANT lie told by a worthless POS who was merely trying to create a smokescreen so his juiced to the gills fighter mosely got through undetected. Don't forget Mosely is a PROVEN SELF CONFESSED CHEAT!!!. Margarito was merely ACCUSED!!!!
I wonder what happened to those plaster blocks???? They just seemed to disappear

    To which you responded:

You're specifically disagreeing with the notion that Mayweather hasn't been in the ring with someone anywhere near Leonard's ability, yet I'm somehow misreading your post. :patsch

No , that would mean he was the best in his division ever and he wasnt.

Top 50 fighter of all time - this is still a very high accolade.

You could make a case for him being GOAT at 130lbs, perhaps...:think.

But yeah, I agree with your assessment.
