People tend to forget that when Oscar was in his prime, so were hotboxes (illegal cable boxes). Everyone I knew had one and when it came time to watch a fight, nobody really paid for the ppv. I'm sure this era took a huge chunk out of ppv buys. If not for illegal cable boxes, Tyson would probably hold the ppv buy title.

For those who think this had no impact on ppv sales back then, you have to be a real idiot! I cant speak for anywhere else, but here in NYC, these things sold like hotcakes! They were everywhere until cable switched from analog to digital.

They've actually been cracking down on this, and when you do get a stream, its usually unreliable or of poor quality.

900K is less than 1M. Futhermore, Mayorga was probably a more popular fighter back then than Ortiz is now.

Knee-jerk reaction. Like an itchy trigger finger.

Anyway, the thing about this thread is, we'll never see how Floyd sells a PPV on his own. He's been choosing the right type of opponents. And that's not a knock on Floyd, all boxers pretty much do that. Buty it is what it is.

The 1 mill # is arbitrary, since you just set that as your bar.

So what's considered selling well? According to you, it's anything over 300K. If that's the standard, than we've seen Mayweather do those numbers with a little known opponent. If Mayorga is the standard for a "****" opponent, then let's see how this fight with Ortiz does considering he's lesser known than Mayorga was back then.
