Is Floyd Planning of Going Up to MW to Avoid Manny??!!!

    I found this article, and what comes first to my mind is why go jump up to MW so soon when you have the biggest money fight right in front of you???!!! Discuss and i'll be back later.... A victory over Cotto makes Mayweather the WBA light-middleweight champion, and he may opt to move up in weight. Roger Mayweather, trainer and uncle of the undefeated American, said part of Floyd’s agenda is to win the middleweight championship. It should be against Sergio Martinez, the reigning WBC middleweight champion from Argentina, and it’s a fight worth watching as well. While everybody wants Mayweather vs Pacquiao, the reigning WBC welterweight king has already shown interest in the fight against Martinez. “I can’t rule out the future, you know down the line I may want to make that jump and fight at middleweight, you just never know,” he told The Boxing Socialist. “I just want to give the fans exciting fights and if Martinez is the guy at that time then we shall see, but right now my main focus is on Miguel Cotto,” Mayweather added. Mayweather has won seven world titles in five weight divisions (super-feather, lightweight, light-welter, welterweight and light-middleweight) and is searching for another one. The Boxing Socialist wrote that if Mayweather eventually wins the middleweight crown he can retire as the only boxer in history to rule six weight divisions without taking a single loss. Pacquiao has won eight world titles in as many weight classes, also a first in boxing history, but has taken three losses, two of them by knockout, against 54 wins and two draws. Mayweather stands at 42-0, and to the 35-year-old American it’s the “zero” that matters most. To him, staying undefeated is the true measure of greatness. Pacquiao defends his WBO welterweight crown against Tim Bradley on June 9. By that time, Mayweather should have regained the light-middleweight title he won against Oscar dela Hoya in 2007. But instead of dropping down to 147 to fight Pacquiao or call on the Pinoy superstar to challenge him at 154, he might move up to middleweight and face Martinez next. Pacquiao won’t fight any higher than 147 lb the rest of his life, and no way he’d fight Mayweather at 154, much more at 160 lb, if the latter wins the middleweight title.     I would say more, but, I don't feel it's worth my time talking about a fantasy fight that will never take place. It's not worth yours, either.

    I am a boxing fan, and i would very much love him to fight Manny first before going up to MW.. that i think is the right path to take...

    Have to agree with Rico, he may well fight Martinez, he may not ( I hope he does ) but one thing I can guarantee you is you will not see Floyd fighting at 160 also the notion that he needs to go to 160 to avoid Manny is stupid.

    You only have to look at the man when he is not in training camp to see how small he is.

    The fact is they have both been fighting at 147 for the past 3 years and haven't faced each other so far, so why would he need to go to another weight class to avoid him?

    Only people who want to bash Mayweather would say or believe this.

    I doubt he'll be going up to MW, despite what he says.

    It's more likely that, after beating Cotto, he'll stay at 154 to fight Canelo for his Bee'Cee belt. That's kinda' what this May 5th is all about - a four-man light middleweight tournament. And once he's got two straps to his name, he'll have another bow to use for his posturing. It's possible that he'll then demand Manny to come up to 154 to fight him, to which of course Manny will decline and remain at 147.

    And there you have it.

    Two fighters operating in two different divisions going their two seperate ways = no chance of a May-Pac fight ever, and Arum and GBP continuing to milk other fights without risking their cash-cows against one another.

    I am not hating on the guy, i am a boxing fan and i just want him to fight Manny first before thinking of moving up to MW.. He knows he will win anyway against the midget, then why not fight him first and get his 100mill...

    It's not feasible for him to fight the midget. With the business structure he has in place, he can't afford to share the stage equally with Arum and Manny. That's why he's only prepared to give Manny a fixed fee of $40 mill, while he handles the rest. Needless to say, Arum and Manny aren't going to settle for that.

    Fight's not happening.

    Trust me, man. The sooner you accept it [the fight not happening] the better it is. Give your attention to the other decent fights that are happening.

    Its all that needs to be said.

    Pacs slipping, Floyd remains dominant over his opponents.

    Why, after Pacs last outings would floyd now be ducking him.

    This is the best time for Floyd to get in there.

    He's simply not ducking him and that's all there is to it.

    Maybe in the past, but not now
